San Francisco, United States AmeriCorps Full time

The Elev8 Youth Program is part of the Safe Passages School Linked Services Initiative, a comprehensive prevention and intervention strategy for high-need K-12 students who score far below or below basic proficiency in Math or English Language Arts (ELA). Participating schools are located in Oakland, Emeryville, and Union City, three high-need areas of Alameda County, with 80% of the student population qualifying for the Free and Reduced Lunch Program and Academic Performance Index (API) scores of all schools being below the state target. Teams AmeriCorps members work through the school year to provide students with academic support; furthermore, the program's goals are to increase school connectedness and functional grade level and reduce absenteeism. Safe Passages is committed to supporting children, youth, and families with a particular emphasis on vulnerable populations within the County of Alameda. To achieve the desired results, the Elev8 Youth Program places teams of AmeriCorps Members at each of our 10 partner school sites. Each Member identifies and supports a cohort of 10 high-need students. A baseline assessment is administered at the beginning of the year to determine the functional grade level students achieve in Math and English Language Arts. Based on the evaluations, AmeriCorps Members develop an individualized learning plan for each student to ensure students move up a minimum of one functional grade level by the end of the school year.

**Member Duties**: Make a difference in your community while developing your tutoring and leadership skills by becoming an AmeriCorps Member for the Elev8 Youth Program, a unique project of Safe Passages 501(c)(3). AmeriCorps Members provide one-on-one and group academic tutoring, mentoring, and enrichment programming to increase English Language Arts and Math proficiency for a cohort of 10 students at one of 7 K-12 schools in Oakland or New Haven Unified School District. Tutoring takes place throughout the school year and for four weeks during summer, both during and after school hours. Members perform academic assessments and develop individualized plans to move targeted students up by a minimum of one functional grade level by the end of the school year. Additionally, Members strengthen the school site and neighboring community by championing service and volunteer initiatives. Members receive ongoing educational, personal, and professional development training.
