**DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION**:
Teen Outreach Coordinator (Outreach Coordinator job class)

**DUTIES**:

- These duties are a representative example; position assignments may vary depending on the business needs of the department and organization.
- This position:

- Plans, organizes, develops and writes community outreach programs and program handouts.
- Partners with law enforcement agencies, community-based organizations, the faith community, relevant City of Santa Maria and Santa Barbara County agencies, and school officials in developing community outreach programs.
- Coordinates focus groups and workshops to gather community input and feedback on various issues and facilitates problem-solving efforts with residents, neighborhood groups, and businesses.
- Meets with city staff to discuss community concerns and attempts to resolve them to a mutually beneficial outcome.
- Provides various services to at-risk individuals in the community setting and gangs that may include, but are not limited to, job preparation and placement services, career development, mentorship training and referral, gang intervention and mediation services.
- Prepares written and oral correspondence and reports.
- Scope of assigned area will depend on departmental structure and is at the discretion of the department director.
- Upholds the values of the organization and has strong customer service orientation.
- Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.
- Demonstrates regular, reliable and punctual attendance.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:

- Ideally, one year of experience working with at-risk populations; and
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate’s degree with coursework in counseling, social services, or a related field.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above; or
- Current technical/professional knowledge of complex principles, methods, standards and techniques associated with the scope of work of a recognized profession, such as:

- Service needs, perspectives, and lifestyle patterns of high-risk, gang-impacted, and/or gang-involved individuals; recreational or educational program development; information management systems; safety practices and procedures.
- Effective verbal and interpersonal communication skills in both English and Spanish.
- Microsoft Office Suite (or equivalent).
- Use computer and other office equipment effectively.
- Desired licenses and/or certifications associated with the assignment.
