**Position Summary**:

- This position works in the Maintenance & Facilities Department and performs a variety of semi-skilled and/or skilled work in the maintenance, construction, repair, and installation of City sidewalks, streets, curbs, pavement, sewers, signs, structures, islands, culverts, alleys, ditches, trees, shrubbery, and storm drains; operates a variety of maintenance and repair tools and equipment; and performs related work as required.

**Examples of Essential and General Responsibilities**:

- Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, _but are not limited to, the following:_
- Provides courteous and expeditious customer service to the general public and City department staff.
- Sets up traffic control devices and performs flagging functions in work zones; ensures a safe working environment according to established safety guidelines.
- Operates a variety of heavy and light equipment, hand, and small power tools including trucks, skip loaders, water trucks, light rollers, backhoes, dump trucks, airless spray equipment, shovels, rakes, and related equipment.
- Performs minor maintenance and adjustments on equipment; performs preventative maintenance procedures on equipment used.
- Assist other crews in performance of their responsibilities as necessary.
- Routinely adheres to and maintains a positive attitude towards City and Department goals.
- Performs a variety of tasks in the painting of traffic control markings and curbs; operates street striping and stencil equipment; paints crosswalks, stop bars, stop signs, lane markers, center lines, parking spaces, curbs, and traffic islands; installs raised traffic bars, guard rails, and reflectors; replaces defective or missing traffic controls.
- Removes, repairs, replaces or installs street signs and traffic signs; cleans and maintains existing signs; trims vegetation that present safety hazards; assists in the fabrication of signs as necessary.
- Operates a variety of equipment including stencil truck, parking lot striper, and marking removal equipment.
- Performs curb, gutter, and sidewalk maintenance duties; breaks up paved surfaces; sets forms; mixes, pours, spreads, and finishes concrete.
- Performs heavy manual labor, loads and unloads dirt, rocks, sand, gravel, and other items at assigned job sites.
- Cleans and maintains streets and parking lots.
- Performs related work as required.

**Minimum and Preferred Requirements**:
- Experience:

- Two (2) years of experience in performing skilled manual labor in the repair and construction of streets, sidewalks and gutters and the operation of such equipment as jackhammers, backhoes, tractors and dump trucks is required.
- Training:

- High School Diploma or equivalent education is required.
- License or Certificates:
- Possession of, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of appointment, a valid Class B driver license with a tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record is required.-
- Possession of a valid Class A driver license with a tanker endorsement and a satisfactory driving record is preferred.Special Requirements:

- Incumbent will be enrolled in the California Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) Pull Notice Program. The DMV Pull Notice Program provides information on the incumbents driving record and driving record status on a periodic basis to the City. (a driving record may be deemed unsatisfactory for any of the following reasons: three or more moving violations or reportable accident within the last three years; conviction of driving under the influence within the last five years).
- Incumbent must successfully complete, or have completed, the necessary pre-employment/placement background investigation and physical and drug screen.

This position works in an office and field environment; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, electrical and radiant energy, high voltage; work or inspect in confined spaces, on slippery or uneven surfaces, underground or at heights on scaffolding, ladders and lifts, and may require maintaining physical condition for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling; climbing with both legs and arms; operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
