**Purpose of Position**:
To serve as the U.T. System Privacy Officer, Systemwide Privacy Coordinator, assist the Chief Compliance and Risk Officer and Systemwide Compliance as well as institution and System administration executive leadership on all privacy related issues.

**Essential Functions**:

- Serves as the U.T. System Administration Privacy Officer for any and all privacy related issues.
- Serves as the Systemwide Privacy Coordinator
- Serves as UT System Administration’s Data Protection Officer (DPO) as defined in Article 39 of the GDPR.
- Works closely with the System’s Chief Information Security Officer regarding current and evolving privacy and security issues.
- Develops System-wide and System Administration policies, as appropriate, regarding the creation and maintenance of personally identifiable and other sensitive data. Works with System institutions as needed to develop and deliver workforce training on applicable state and federal privacy laws and Initiates, facilitates and promotes activities to foster information privacy awareness within the System.
- Collaborate with Records Management/Data Management Officer
- Develop and maintain a continuous privacy risk assessment process to proactively manage and mitigate potential issues.
- In collaboration with procurement teams, Legal, Security, and operations, assist with high-risk vendor risk assessments and address privacy compliance risks in existing contract purchases and renewals.
- Serves as a resource to the System Compliance Committee to provide input and advice on privacy-related compliance issues.
- Serves as privacy liaison to the Chief Information Security Officer Council (CISO Council).
- Assist with providing training to workforce, contractors, and institutions regarding privacy related duties and responsibilities to ensure ethical and legal behavior and compliance with each institution's Code of Conduct.
- Provide legal advice on privacy and related matters as needed, within legal advice role of the Office of General Counsel
- Data Governance - Collaborate with Security, Information Technology, Data Governance Officer, and data stakeholders, to establish and support data safeguarding and governance processes that appropriately address privacy compliance risks including audit findings.
- Develop guidelines and raise awareness of significant privacy compliance risks in IT procurement and data-sharing processes.
- Collaborate with Legal, government relations, and data stakeholders to analyze implications of legislation or regulations, providing recommendations and facilitates and coordinates information flow between U.T. System and the institutions.
- Incident Response: Contribute to the Systemwide and UT System Administration Security Incident Response Teams by analyzing privacy risks and making recommendations to protect data privacy.
- May collaborate on investigations of reported instances of non-compliance.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:
**Required Qualifications**:
Juris Doctorate and 5 years of progressively responsible experience with state and federal regulatory compliance with a focus on privacy, data ethics, cybersecurity regulations. Equivalent combination of education and experience.

**Preferred Qualifications**:

- Certified Information Privacy Professional (CIPP), preferred but not required.
- Experience in working with Institutions of Higher Education and or government agencies, and large decentralized systems or organizations.
