Job Overview:
The Economist will be responsible for conducting comprehensive economic analyses related to household food waste, contributing to the classification and measurement of food waste by source and category, and evaluating the impact of various household characteristics on food waste. This position requires a strong background in economics, statistical analysis, and experience with large-scale data collection and analysis projects.

Key Responsibilities
- **Economic Analysis**: Conduct economic research and analysis to classify and measure household food waste by source and category.
- **Data Management**: Develop and implement data collection methodologies, ensuring the collection of high-quality, representative data.
- **Report Writing**: Prepare detailed reports and presentations that summarize findings, methodologies, and policy implications.
- **Collaboration**: Work closely with a multidisciplinary team, including nutritionists, data scientists, and project managers, to integrate findings into a comprehensive study.
- **Peer Review**: Participate in and respond to peer reviews, incorporating feedback into final reports and publications.
- **Regulatory Compliance**: Ensure compliance with OMB and USDA guidelines for data collection and reporting.

Required Qualifications
- **Education**: Master’s degree in Economics, Agricultural Economics, or a related field. Ph.D. preferred.
- **Experience**: Minimum of 5 years of experience in economic research, with a focus on food waste, consumption patterns, or related areas.
- **Technical Skills**: Proficiency in statistical software (e.g., SAS, Stata, R) and experience with large datasets. Strong analytical and quantitative skills.
- **Communication Skills**: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with experience preparing technical reports and presenting findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- **Project Management**: Experience managing or contributing to large-scale research projects, including data collection and analysis.
- **Regulatory Knowledge**: Familiarity with Federal Government projects and regulations related to data collection.

Preferred Qualifications
- **Specialization**: Specific experience in household food waste analysis or related fields.
- **Publications**: A track record of published research in peer-reviewed journals.
- **Collaboration**: Experience working in interdisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders.
- **Policy Analysis**: Experience in translating research findings into policy recommendations.
