- The Department of Agriculture, Conservation & Forestry has a current vacancy for a Regional Enforcement Coordinator in the Bureau of Forestry, Forest Policy and Management Division, based in Augusta, Maine. The actual location is flexible._
- As one of 3 Maine Forest Service Regional Enforcement Coordinators statewide, you will lead MFS’s regulatory program of education, intervention, enforcement and permitting activities related to timber harvesting and associated activities in your assigned area. You will collaborate with the entire MFS team to provide information, training, and assistance to multiple audiences, monitor forest conditions and forest operations, and promote stewardship of Maine’s critical forest resources._

**BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION**:This is professional, interdisciplinary forestry work involved in coordinating the enforcement of various forest practices laws and agency rules, including the Forest Practices Act, timber harvesting in the jurisdiction of the Land Use Planning Commission, Statewide Standards for Timber Harvesting and Related Activities in shoreland areas, and liquidation harvesting. Duties include planning, organizing, and coordinating the enforcement of forest practices laws, and rules in one of three regions of the state. Frequent statewide travel is required.

**Typical Duties**:

- Plan, organize, and coordinate the enforcement of the Forest Practices Act and other forest practices laws and rules in one of three regions of the state.
- Plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the training of District Foresters, Forest Rangers, forest landowners, loggers, private foresters, and the public in laws, regulations, issues, methods, and techniques of compliance with the state’s forest practices laws and regulations.
- Receive case data reports from District Foresters, conduct additional investigations, prepare for settlement or litigation, consult with the Attorney General’s office as appropriate, review with the division’s statewide enforcement team, and forward to the Division Director for action.
- Coordinate and direct any required follow-up on forest practices enforcement cases with settlement agreements or consent agreements. Coordinate monitoring of settlement agreement conditions.
- Advise District Foresters and Forest Rangers on enforcement issues involving timber trespass and theft.

The position collaborates closely with a team of MFS field and program staff.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**:An eight (8) year combination of education, training, and/or experience in professional forestry which includes possession of a current license as a Forester in Maine and significant field experience involving inspection, enforcement, and supervision of forest operations and related forest management practices.

- Ability to use Global Positioning Systems equipment.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
- Ability to prepare legal letters and reports for investigations and enforcement actions.
- Ability to prepare maps using manual drafting tools, Geographic Information Systems and related programs and hardware.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to develop and implement a variety of forestry training programs.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a wide range of interests.
