Union Settlement is an East Harlem based nonprofit organization founded in 1895. For 128 years, Union Settlement has provided critical and innovative programming to children, youth, families, and older adults. As a pioneer of the settlement house movement, Union Settlement continues to meet the needs of the ever-changing East Harlem community through its core programs. Today, Union Settlement provides services through 33 program sites in approximately 28 locations. Union Settlement’s current programmatic portfolio includes 8 core program areas: Early Childhood Education, Youth Services (including after school programs), Family Services (including the Family Enrichment Center and the Family Childcare Network), the East Harlem Community Partnership, Adult Education, Mental Health Services, Older Adult Centers, and Economic Development. Union Settlement serves more than 10,000 individuals and nearly 1,000 businesses every year.

**Position**:Older Adult Center Assistant

**Department**:Aging, Health, & Wellness

**Reports to**:Center Director

**Hours**:Full-Time; M-F 8:30am - 4:30pm

**Salary**: $18.53 per hour

**FLSA**:Non-Exempt

**Location**: On-site, Gaylord White Older Adult Center

**Position Summary**:
Under the supervision of the Center Director the OAC Assistant is responsible for service of lunch at the Older Adult Center they are located, as well as assisting center staff with program development.

**Responsibilities**:

- Center Wide_
- Assist with creating and distributing monthly calendars & outreach flyers
- Assist with making announcements daily to seniors regarding upcoming events and activities.
- Prepare daily activity logs, record attendance, maintain excel reports documenting data required by DFTA
- Provide adequate supervision during all enrichment/learning activities
- Work collaboratively with Center Director and Program Assistant on program development
- Assist with preparing and collecting daily activity logs, record attendance
- Plan and implement with the Center Director and Outreach Specialist on-going outreach to the community to advertise the rich array of diverse activities at the center
- Work cooperatively with all staff within and outside the Senior Services Department, and community-based organizations for center-based activities and agency wide events
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.
- Kitchen_
- Serve lunch, in accordance with Department for the Aging (DFTA) and New York City Department of Health (DOH) guidelines.
- Assist the Center Director in determining appropriate work schedules and tasks for volunteers.
- Responsible for cleaning the kitchen and all kitchen equipment at Senior Center. This includes the periodic cleaning of large equipment such as refrigerators, freezers, and coffee urns.
- Assign appropriate duties and supervise all volunteers in the Senior Center kitchen.
- Assist the Cook with preparation of sandwiches/Snacks.
- Responsible for the safe handling of food including storing meals according to temperature and safety guidelines at all times.
- Receive, unpack, inventory, and store all food according to policy and guidelines immediately upon delivery. This includes dating perishable and canned goods.
- Attend trainings sponsored by DFTA and DOH
- Additional duties as assigned by supervisor.

**Qualifications**:

- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid NYC Food Protection Certificate a plus. Ability to take training course and obtain NYC Food Protection Certificate at time of employment required.
- Ability to stand for long hours.
- Ability to lift up to 40 pounds.
- Good organizational ability, time management, and interpersonal skills.
- Good written and oral communications skills.
- Desire or interest in working with aging populations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
