The selectee of this position serves as a Deputy Chief of Staff. Works closely with the Chief of Staff (CoS), Director and other senior level staff to ensure major mission-related initiatives receive the proper level of support and expertise. Ensures collaboration of projects across the USMS. Travels with the Director, USMS and plans, schedules, coordinates, and oversees projects/assignments related to the travel.

Duties

As a Deputy Chief of Staff at the GS-0340-15 level, some of your typical work assignments may include:
Works closely with the Chief of Staff (CoS), Director and other senior level staff to ensure that activities related to major mission-related initiatives receive the proper level of support and expertise.
Ensures that administrative resources are used effectively, and appropriate staff are involved in projects that require collaboration across the USMS.
Coordinates the accomplishment of major projects and has the responsibility for oversight of strategic planning, policies and analyses that directly shape the administrative and operational functions of the USMS.
Reviews USMS programs for effectiveness and ensures that trends are identified and presented in concert with the urgency dictated by the condition.
The incumbent the supports the Director's travel. Plans, schedules, coordinates, and oversees
projects/assignments related to the travel. Travels approximately 35% of the time.

**Requirements**:
Conditions of Employment

Must pass a pre-employment security investigation and drug screening.

May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

May be required to complete a managerial probationary period.

Must be a U.S. Citizen or National.

All qualification requirements for this position must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.

**Qualifications**:
**GS-15 TIME IN GRADE REQUIREMENTS**: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-14 grade level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-15 grade level. (Must submit your SF-50 that shows Time-in-Grade eligibility and reflects your title, series, and grade. No award SF-50 will be accepted).

You may qualify at the GS-0340-15 level, if you fulfill one of the following qualifications:
1) Providing advice to senior leadership on issues relating to policy, accountability, automation and quality assurance, and program development; 2) Managing staffing resources, coordinating significant program/project issues, establishing goals and objectives including short
- and long-range work plans; 3) Directing analyses, assessments, plans, and research into specific problem areas; 4) Identifying root causes of the issue at hand, and developing recommendations for effective solutions in order to resolve the problems, 5) Evaluating and analyzing current and projected programs for actual or potential problem areas, trends, resource shortfalls, program imbalances, and areas of potential program accomplishments and deficiencies.
