Dog Groomer

**Job Summary**

The Groomer is responsible for cutting and styling dogs according to owner desires following established BFFE and grooming industry standards. Combs, clips, trims, and shapes dogs' coats to groom dogs by performing the following duties. Must be proficient in hand scissoring, custom cuts, and breed specific cuts. Groomers must possess a full complement of grooming tools required, including blades, clippers, scissors, etc. Bathing supplies and dryer provided. Ability to perform additional grooming services including brushing, ear and teeth cleaning, expression of anal glands, & trimming nails, etc. The groomers will have 1-3 grooming technicians working under their directions as well as mentoring and growing less experienced groomers.

**Essential Duties and Responsibilities**:

- Reads written or receives oral instructions to determine clipping pattern desired.
- Places dog on grooming table and fits grooming collar on dog to hold animal to table.
- Studies proportions of dogs to determine the most appropriate cutting pattern to achieve desired style of client’s request. Clips dog's hair according to determined pattern.
- Communicates with clients to clarify dog’s needs, styles, or concerns.
- De-matting and detangling hair as required.
- Bathing, conditioning, and drying pets
- Trimming pets’ nails, brushing their teeth and cleaning their ears.
- Grooming and styling pets according to pet owners’ instructions or standard grooming styles
- Accommodating special requests that pet owners may have.
- Identify health issues in pets, such as ear infections, skin conditions, or tooth decay and inform pet owners of these observations.
- Ensure that all pets are safe during the grooming process.
- Routinely assisting the grooming technician in maintaining clean and sanitary conditions and end of the day closing of the shop
- Recommend suitable products to the owners.
- Combs and shapes dog's coat.
- Talks to dog or uses other techniques to calm animal. Ask for assistance when a pet is stressed, very difficult to manage or showing any signs of injury.
- Upselling potential grooming dogs.
- Other duties that are assigned.

**Supervisory Responsibilities**

Directly works with 1-3 Groom Technicians/Bathers in the Grooming / Bathing. Responsibilities include training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Ability to use a PC, mobile device, and/or other electronics with our BFFE software systems.
- Perform duties at multiple workstations (e.g., front desk, sales, handling, etc.)
- Complete all resort housekeeping functions (i.e., dusting, sweeping, mopping, cleaning restrooms, emptying trash, cleaning kennels, sanitizing food bowls etc.).
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment.
- High energy, positive attitude, and excellent customer service skills.
- Interact productively with co-workers and function well in a team environment.
- Thorough understanding of company policies and practices.
- Valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and reliable transportation; must be able to travel and assist with transporting dogs, when necessary, between locations or to the veterinarian.

**Availability**
- Must be available with reliable transportation.
- Monday - Sunday, at least 5 days a week

**Physical/Mental Job Requirements**
- Able to lift 50-60 pounds repetitively daily.
- Work with cleaning chemicals safely
- Must be able to use hands and lifting techniques to lift dogs from crates of varying levels.
- Must be able to use hands to write and notate client records.

**Minimum Requirements**
- High School Graduate or GED
- Genuine care and concern for caring for dogs of all sizes and needs.
- 6 months of professional dog care experience is preferred.
- 1-2 years of customer service experience.
