**Lower School Art Teacher**:
**Job Summary**

**Main Responsibilities**:

- To be responsible for the preparation and updating of the Unit Planners in Art, as necessary, for each year group so that there is a program of work showing what students cover in Art, in relation to the Program of Inquiry, available on-line.
- To meet regularly with year groups to support planning and implementation of Art in order to ensure that cross-curricular opportunities are met.
- To keep up to date with national and international events in Art and take initiative for professional development.
- To encourage teachers and students to be aware of developments in Art. Coordinate curriculum with Curriculum Integrator.
- Other duties as delegated by supervisor. A GWA teacher will:

- Plan collaboratively for student learning.
- Plan based on IBPYP student outcomes as appropriate.
- Involve students in planning their inquiry and assessment.
- Plan to build upon students’ prior knowledge and experience. Address assessment throughout the planning process.
- Plan units that explore the similarities and differences between cultures and places. Plan units that explore broad human experience from different perspectives.
- Plan units that focus directly on major issues, e.g. prejudice, equality.

**Teaching & Learning**:
A GWA teacher will:

- Use a range and balance of teaching strategies.
- Group students appropriately for different learning situations. Build on what students know.
- Use multiple resources to represent multiple perspectives. Empower students to feel responsible and to take action. Involve students actively in their own learning.
- Develop open-ended inquiry and real life investigations.
- Ensure up to date knowledge of the IBPYP as necessary. Advocate and
- embed the student learners profile in all aspects of GWA life. Be aware that English may not be the first language of all students. Address the needs of all students of different levels and types of ability.

**Qualifications**:

- At least seven years of teaching experience.
- Master’s degree in Education, Art, or related field.
- Excellent teaching, communication, team-working and organizational skills.
- Have experience and excellent knowledge of teaching the IB Curriculum. Understand and be able to articulate what constitutes outstanding classroom practice.
- Possess good judgment to be able to take measured decisions, and be able to work independently and with initiative.
- Passion to play a part in the co-curricular life of a busy international school.
- Possess the ambition and enthusiasm to want to play a key role in shaping and developing an outstanding school.
