Amgen’s Research and Development (R&D) Business Operations organization addresses complex business challenges with outstanding people, tools, and processes. The Extramural Research Alliance (ERA) team operates with a goal to enhance Amgen scientific endeavors and relationships worldwide. This team provides support for preclinical collaborations with non-profit and academic institutions, partnering with cross functional teams and external partners to provide synergistic opportunities for scientific partnerships. This position requires strong leadership, strategic vision, and exceptional negotiation skills to drive impactful collaborations that advance the organization's mission and objectives. By coordinating non-human materials and reagents through material transfer agreements and collaborative requests, the ERA team assists in facilitating and sustaining key relationships in the academic community. The Associate Director will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including legal, sourcing, accounts payable, and finance, to ensure smooth and seamless contract management and payment operations. - Direct the review, drafting, and negotiation of contracts between Amgen and academic or non-profit institutions.
- Provide guidance and support to the team in negotiating contract terms, pricing structures, intellectual property rights, and other relevant terms and conditions.
- Ability to effectively explain complex contract terms and positions to internal stakeholders.
- Ability to effectively communicate business risks to internal stakeholders and escalate as appropriate.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate with law, sourcing, accounts payable, and other relevant teams to streamline financial processes and resolve any issues or discrepancies.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for external partners, addressing inquiries, resolving issues, and fostering positive long-term relationships.
- Ensure effective communication and foster positive working relationships.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory requirements, legal obligations, and organizational policies in all external engagements and partnership activities.
- Develop and implement strategies to identify, cultivate, and expand partnerships with academic institutions and non-profit organizations aligned with the organization's mission and objectives.
- Participate in audits and assist with compliance-related activities as required.
- Provide leadership, mentorship, and guidance to a team of professionals responsible for contract negotiation, relationship management, and partnership development.
- Lead and mentor a team of individual contributors focused on academic partnerships.
- Set clear objectives, provide guidance, and foster development opportunities for team members.
- Ensure alignment of team goals with overall organizational objectives.
- Foster a collaborative and inclusive team culture that encourages creativity, innovation, and excellence.
