**PURPOSE OF POSITION**
Performs a full range of services assigned under the general supervision of the Assistant Director of Anatomic Pathology and the Laboratory Administrator.

**AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITIES**

- Body Collection Point (BCP) or Trailer

**SUMMARY OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Performs all the basic duties of a morgue technician such as body identification, lifting and transferring the body to the Body Collection Point (BCP) or trailer.
- Transports bodies and /or assists mortuary caretaker in transporting bodies to the mortuary and places in refrigerator when necessary.
- Searches DOA's and completes the required DOA reports.
- Transports fetuses, amputated parts or other specimens to morgue and provides postmortem care.
- Responsible for maintaining the quality control charts for temperature, decontamination, and maintenance of body-holding area and the BCP.
- Maintain inventory and stock supplies for handling decedents.
- Release bodies to Funeral Director and OCME Medical Examiner staff. Inputs the decedent information in EPIC
- Assures that at the time of transfer the bodies are accompanied by:

- Death Certificate
- Clinical Summary
- Donor Network forms
- Burial permit
- Facesheet
- Medical Examiner (K-0000)
- If any of the required forms are missing, the technician is responsible for getting the copies from Admitting Office/Medical Records and attaching the forms to body bags before transfer.
- Maintains, controls laboratory records, appropriate forms and documents.
- Maintains accurate and proper records of Mortuary Logs of all bodies removed from the Mortuary Area. Files and stores Mortuary Logs in Pathology Archives.
- Assist in performing the weekly disposal of Anatomic Pathology specimens, when needed.
- Assist in performing the packing, storing, and labeling of the weekly disposed specimens in the cardboard barrels used for disposal, when needed.
- Ensure compliance with all OSHA and other safety requirements.
- Responsible for performing other tasks as needed and assigned by Assistant Director of Anatomic Pathology and the Laboratory Administrator.
- Collects and delivers specimens in regular and emergency requisitions for diagnostic testing.
- Performs other messenger duties as required. In trauma emergencies, transports blood to and from the ED Trauma Center and Blood Bank in coordination with the Trauma Team.
- Maintains clinical competence by attending continuing education programs.

**Work Aids**:
Includes the safe use and handling of toxic, infectious and other biohazardous substances, fumes, electrical
substances.

**Minimum Qualifications**:

- Graduation from elementary school.
- Successful completion of a basic skill training program for Nurse's Aides, or its equivalent.
