Health and Cancer Helpline Social Worker
The Health and Cancer Helpline Social Worker position at the UFT Welfare Fund provides free, confidential support services to UFT members and their covered dependents who are affected by medical illnesses and behavioral health issues.
The Social Worker will report to the Supervisor of the Health and Cancer Helpline.
Job Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Social Work required with New York State License or Pending Licensure.
- Ability to work compassionately with members and their families experiencing a chronic illness, injury, or behavioral health issue. Able to engage and diffuse crisis situations.
- Ability to effectively support members and their families from a wide range of cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Knowledge of community-based organizations and resources in the NYC metropolitan area.
- Experience in health care navigation and/or oncology setting is a plus.
**Responsibilities**:
- Conduct intake/assessments to meet the health and wellness needs of members (working adults).
- Provide short term case management via telephone or in person to provide community referrals to healthcare professionals or health related institutions.
- Support union members and their families in understanding health benefits, insurance, and workplace leave of absence.
- Assist in all department operations.
**Salary**: Qualified applicant can expect a salary between $60,000- $70,000 plus an outstanding benefits package including a pension, employer contributions to 401k plan and premium-free health coverage.
