Billing Coordinator

**Overview**:
The purpose of the billing coordinator is to ensure payment for services from insurance companies and clients. Employees in this role are responsible for verifying benefits, ensuring documentation is received from therapists to ensure payment, submitting claims for payment to insurance companies, invoicing clients, following up on outstanding balances to ensure payment, and submitting overdue balances to collections agencies if necessary. The billing coordinator is responsible for operating in the best interest of the company at all times.

At times, the billing coordinator may fill in as receptionist. The receptionist is responsible for ensuring the family experience is seamless, welcoming and supportive. Care coordinators serve as the bridge between therapists and families. They are responsible for greeting clients and visitors, ensuring the atmosphere is friendly, clean, welcoming and conducive to therapy, and ensuring that therapists have the support they need to provide an exceptional level of care to each family.

**Responsibilities**:

- Client intake, verification of benefits and authorization.
- Ensure that all requested forms, consents, etc. are in place.
- Verifying the insurance and financial responsibilities of the patient.
- Managing phone calls and patient referrals from Primary Care Practices, insurance companies, etc.
- Performing clerical work, such as filing, copying, and faxing.
- Resolving insurance denials and underpayments
- Identify and resolve outstanding issues preventing claim resolution
- Documentation and data entry
- Obtain pre-authorization for services
- Carries out receptionist duties such as greeting patients, answering phone calls in a timely manner, making phone calls, and handling mail. Assists supervisors and therapists with projects such as gathering data, keeping statistics, preparing mailings, scheduling staff as needed. Assists supervisor in orientation and training of new employees.
- Confirms and schedule appointments.
- Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously.
- Collects co-pays or outstanding balances on the date of service.
- Assists patients and families in completing required paperwork.
- Work with family and builds relationships.
- Communicates and expediently notifies the supervising therapist of any patient delays, damaged equipment, or patient problems or concerns.
- Performs certain follow-up services for patients in a prompt and courteous manner, such as scheduling specialist appointments, scheduling follow-up appointments and obtaining copies lab results or specialist reports
- File and maintain medical records
- Requirements:

- High school diploma or GED.
- One year billing experience preferred.
- Strong communication skills, specifically exhibiting empathy when interacting with patients over the phone.
- Proficient in English, verbal and written communication.

**Job Type**: Part-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
