We are currently seeking a Counselor who will advance the institution’s proud tradition of excellence in academics, student life and community service.

**The Opportunity**

You: You’re a top-notch counselor dedicated to helping students resolve challenges so they can focus on getting their educations and achieving their goals.

Your mission: Provide the counseling services needed to assist students in identifying and mitigating obstacles to their academic, career and personal success.

Your work: You’ll do various types of counseling, including career assessment and counseling to undecided majors; counseling of at-risk students and those on disciplinary probation or suspension; and online counseling to out-of-district, out-of-state and distance education students.

We’ll rely on you to review medical documentation and determine appropriate recommendations, as well as to educate and assist faculty and staff with ADA and 504 regulations. You’ll also assist in the development of career exploration resources that will be used in Student Success courses.

**SUMMARY**

Provide counseling services to assist students identify, mitigate and/or remove barriers that impede their ability to reach their academic, career, and personal goals. Provide personal, academic, career, crisis and disability counseling.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES **include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Review medical documentation and determining appropriate accommodations. ADA Counselor will ensure that accommodations are consistent across campus and within legal requirements.

The ADA/504 Counselor, in consultation with legal counsel and the HCC Office of Institutional Equity, will make alterations in the protocol or individual accommodation plans as legal decisions/requirements dictate change.

Maintain a confidential record of all disability and accommodation issues and the resolution of each.

Educate and assist faculty and staff with ADA and 504 regulations.

Make recommendations to review, select, purchase and implement new assistive technology or adaptive equipment for students with disabilities.

Serve as a primary planning liaison for HCC programs, policies and procedures relating to HCC’s compliance and the promotion of HCC opportunities for students with disabilities.

Ensure that appropriate processes are in place to provide for the prompt and equitable resolution of complaints and inquiries from HCC students regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.

Coordinate with the HCC Office of Institutional Equity on student complaints alleging discrimination and non-compliance under the ADA and other applicable federal and state laws regarding discrimination on the basis of disability.

Maintain current information regarding state and federal laws and regulations as well as the best practices of other colleges/universities concerning the rights of students with disabilities and ways of providing reasonable accommodations to students with disabilities while maintaining program performance standards.

Ensure that HCC-related information is readily available on services, accommodations, policies, and demographics relating to students with disabilities.

Develop and maintain written materials and other informational pieces to broadly disseminate information regarding the ADA and HCC’s policies relating to students with disabilities.

Design and participate in the development of presentations for students, faculty and staff of the provision of equal opportunity for students with disabilities.

Serve as a primary liaison with relevant state and federal agencies, as well as with other ADA Counselors/Coordinators at colleague institutions and/or associations.

Ensure the timely filing of all required compliance reports.

Develop and implement internal measures and/or reports which inform HCC administration of the status of ADA compliance and opportunities for students with disabilities.

Provide brief personal counseling and provide resources for further counseling as needed.

Provide career assessment and counseling to undecided majors and referrals from success course instructors.

Assist in the development of career exploration resources to be utilized in success courses.

Respond to crisis situations and to campus/college critical incidents requiring counseling services (e.g. classroom/group debriefing, supportive counseling).

Respond to early alert referrals requiring counselor intervention.

Responsible and accountable for a case load of at-risk students (i.e. probation, suspension, repeaters, early alert).

Provide counseling to students on disciplinary probation or suspension, as referred by the dean of student services, to address behaviors in violation of the student code of conduct.

Maintain confidential student records.

Provide community resources and follow up as needed.

Work with faculty to assist students who may be experiencing academic or personal challenges.
