Job Description

Job Summary

J Camps Senior Counselors are at least entering freshman year of college or High School Graduate. Senior Counselors will support the camp director by providing a safe and fun environment for the kids in camp. In addition, senior counselors will swim daily, bring a spirited and upbeat attitude, and help provide an awesome summer for kids in camp s that focus on J Camp guiding principles.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES
  1. Assist Camp Program leaders with all aspects of the campers' day (i.e. activities, swimming, lunch, clean-up and carpool)
  2. Lead the group through the camp day and participate in activities with campers
  3. Learn the names of all campers in their group
  4. Follow a daily schedule
  5. Learn, understand, and lead campers through emergency procedures
  6. Know and follow all safety guidelines to ensure camper safety during planned activities
  7. Organize and guide campers in successful participation of all camp activities
  8. Accept work direction from Camp Program leaders, specialists, and Camp Director
  9. Be an incredible role model
  10. Follow camp policies and procedures and communicate and report regularly to Camp Director regarding challenges, updates and concerns
  11. Identify and respond to camper behavior issues; keep Camp Director informed
  12. Interact with parents in a professional, courteous manner
  13. Actively participate in staff training and meetings
  14. Duties and responsibilities of camp counselors vary very differently depending on various factors. Some of those factors are:
    • Age group of children
    • Theme of camps
    • Location of camp
    • Size of camp
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be assigned as required.

Qualifications
  1. Must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or the equivalent.
  2. Must attend Staff Training
  3. Must like children and have experience working with them
  4. Ability to take direction, complete assigned tasks and lead program activities.
  5. Energetic and enthusiastic
  6. Team Player
  7. Organized and self-motivated
  8. Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
  9. Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities
  10. Must be able to lift 25lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
  11. Upon hire, complete First Aid and CPR Certification (or recertification expired)
  12. Must be fully vaccinated.
