**Position Summary/Purpose of Position**:

- Reporting to the Assistant Dean for Development, the Director of Development is responsible for assisting the College of Arts and Humanities (ARHU) Development Office in meeting the fundraising objectives. The Director will represent the College of Arts and Humanities units to internal and external audiences while working with members of the university community to advance our mission. This individual is expected to partner effectively with ARHU faculty, leadership and volunteers.

The Director of Development will manage a portfolio of approximately 100 major gift prospects with the objective of discovering, cultivating, soliciting and closing major gifts from $50,000 - $1M+ and developing a strong portfolio of supporters. Additionally, the Director is expected to make a minimum of 100 -120 prospects visits annually, both locally and nationally. The incumbent will be the primary point of contact for the Performing Arts and the Arts for All initiative, ensuring all donor events and initiatives associated with these areas have clearly defined outcomes and are planned, promoted and presented with the highest standards.

The Director will supervise three Gift Officers overseeing their donor strategies and fundraising goals. They will attend and may facilitate, in areas of expertise, specialized training and development sessions with deans, vice presidents, assistant vice presidents, directors, seasoned and new professionals, faculty and staff, and volunteers.

This position requires time out of the office meeting with prospective donors and travel is expected for approximately 50% of the time, with local and national travel expected and some nights and weekends required.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
**Education**:

- Bachelor’s degree required.

**Experience**:

- A minimum of seven years of successful development or related experience, preferably within a large complex academic organization.
- A proven record of working effectively initiating and building relationships with prospects.
- A successful track record of soliciting, securing, and closing philanthropic gifts.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities**:

- Proven record of closing five and six-figure gifts.
- Energetic professional with a proven track record of building excellent donor/client relationships.
- Willingness and ability to make “cold calls” and to cultivate relationships.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Ability to manage many projects simultaneously and a demonstrated record of completing assignments.
- Strong customer service ethic and experience overseeing successful events and activities.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with diverse groups of constituents and colleagues.
- Proven ability to build strong relationships with faculty/colleagues and leadership.
- Demonstrated ability to represent the University in a highly professional and effective manner.
- Experience with donor databases and an ability to pull, organize and analyze data in support of strategic decision making.
- Extensive knowledge of and experience in the performing arts.
