Executive Director, Non-Profit Museum in South Haven, MI

The Board of Directors seeks an Executive Director for a children’s museum in Southwest Michigan. The position is approximately 30 hours a week. The salary is approximately $38,000.

Generally, the executive director manages part-time staff and volunteers and oversees the organization's administration, exhibits and programs, building, and strategic plan. Other essential duties include grant writing, fundraising, donor relations, marketing, and community outreach. The position reports directly to the Board of Directors.

**GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES**

1) **Board Governance**: Works with the board to fulfill the organization's mission.

2) **Financial Performance and Viability**:Develop resources sufficient to ensure the organization's financial health. This includes grant writing, building the donor base, museum memberships, fundraising, and growing the gift shop.

3) **Organization Mission and Strategy**:Works with board and staff to ensure that the mission is fulfilled through museum exhibits, programs, strategic planning, and community outreach.

4) **Organization Operations**: Oversees and implements appropriate resources to ensure the organization's appropriate operations.

**Actual Job Responsibilities**
- Report to and work closely with the Board of Directors to seek their involvement in policy decisions, fundraising, and increasing the organization's overall visibility.
- Supervise and collaborate with organization staff.
- Strategic planning and implementation.
- Planning and operation of the annual budget.
- Serve as the organization’s primary spokesperson to its donors, constituents, the media, and the public.
- Establish and maintain relationships with donors and various organizations and use those relationships to strategically enhance the organization’s Mission.
- Seek, write, and administer grants; create and manage the fundraising calendar and fundraising events; and develop other revenue streams.
- Oversee marketing and other communications efforts.
- Oversee organization Board and committee meetings.
- Establish employment and administrative policies and procedures for all functions and the nonprofit's operations.
- Review and approve contracts for services.
- Other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors.

**Professional Qualifications Needed**
- A bachelor’s degree.
- Transparent and high-integrity leadership.
- Two or more years of senior nonprofit management experience.
- Experience and skill in working with a Board of Directors.
- High-level strategic thinking and planning. Ability to envision and convey the organization’s strategic future to the staff, board, volunteers, and donors.
- Ability to communicate the organization’s mission effectively to donors, grant sources, volunteers, and the community.
- Demonstrated ability to oversee and collaborate with staff and the board of directors.
- A history of successfully seeking and securing grant funds, generating new revenue streams, and improving financial results.
- Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community.
- Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence, including funders, partner agencies, and volunteers.
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation.
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong public speaking ability.
- Strong work ethic with a high degree of energy.

Pay: $38,000.00 per year
