**Job Overview**:
The Shelter Manager is responsible for the overall management and operation of the Community Humane Shelter of Steuben County. This role includes overseeing animal care, staff and volunteer management, community outreach, and ensuring adherence to the shelter's mission and policies. The Shelter Manager will work closely with the Board of Directors to implement best practices for animal care and adoption, while fostering a compassionate and supportive environment for animals, staff, volunteers, and the community.

**Responsibilities**:
**Animal Care and Welfare**:

- Oversee the daily care and well-being of all animals in the shelter.
- Ensure all animals receive appropriate medical care, including vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, and emergency treatments.
- Implement and uphold best practices for animal care and housing.

**Adoption and Foster Programs**:

- Develop and manage effective adoption and foster programs to find forever homes for animals.
- Collaborate with rescue organizations and other shelters to maximize animal placement.
- Monitor and evaluate the success of adoption events and initiatives.

**Staff and Volunteer Management**:

- Recruit, train, supervise, and evaluate shelter staff and volunteers.
- Foster a positive and productive work environment.
- Provide ongoing training and professional development opportunities.

**Community Outreach and Education**:

- Promote the shelter's mission and programs through community outreach and education.
- Develop and deliver humane education programs for schools, community groups, and the general public.
- Represent the shelter at public events, fundraisers, and in the media.

**Administrative Duties**:

- Manage shelter budgets, financial records, and reporting.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care, adoptions, and other shelter activities.

**Facility Management**:

- Ensure the shelter facilities are clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Oversee the maintenance and repair of the shelter and its equipment.
- Implement and enforce safety protocols for staff, volunteers, and visitors.

**Qualifications**:
**Education**: Balcholerdegree preferred (but not required) in animal science, veterinary technology, business administration, or related field preferred.

**Experience**:Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in animal shelter management or a related field (preferred)

**Skills**:

- Strong leadership and team management abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in budgeting and financial management.
- Knowledge of animal care best practices and regulations.
- Ability to handle stressful situations and make sound decisions under pressure.

**Additional Requirements**:

- Passion for animal welfare and alignment with the shelter's mission
- Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and holidays
- Valid drivers license and reliable transportation
- Other duties outlined by the board

Pay: $14.47 - $15.38 per hour

License/Certification:

- Driver's License (required)
