The Accounts Receivable (AR) department is responsible for all phases of accounts receivable collection and payment posting activities. AR Specialists regularly interact with patients and insurance.

**KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND TASKS (ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS)**

**Payment Posting**
- Review Explanation of Benefits to interpret how insurance company paid.
- Determine and resolve credit balance
- Review patient accounts to determine if account should be patient or insurance responsibility or re-billed if necessary.

**Insurance Follow-up**
- Utilize collections queue and aging reports to follow up on unpaid claims
- Identify root causes of insurance denials, following up with hospital, insurance company and patient as needed.
- Process medical records and requests for additional information, etc. as requested by insurance companies.
- Process insurance appeals and rebills to payors.

**Collections**
- Follow up with patients and insurance representatives who have outstanding balances indicating next steps to resolve in a timely manner.
- Assist patients with setting up payment plans or refer them to eligibility professionals to explore additional reimbursement resources.

**Other**
- Respond to patient questions regarding bills and take payment information. Assist patients with setting up payment plans or refer them to eligibility professionals to explore additional reimbursement resources.
- Meet with Supervisor to discuss and resolve reimbursement issues or billing obstacles.
- Attend monthly staff meetings and continuing educational sessions as requested.

**Education and Experience**
- High school diploma is required; Associates degree is preferred.
- Minimum of two years of accounts receivable experience is required, preferably in a medical setting.
- Familiarity with medical terminology and CPT and ICD-10 coding is preferred.

**Skills, Knowledge and other Competencies**
- High level of customer service skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Must have working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel and medical billing software.
- Must be positive with strong customer service orientation with ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to multi-task, with various interruptions, and meet important deadlines.
- Self-directed individual with ability to organize and prioritize work with strong attention to detail.
- Must maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
- Must be able to use a variety of office equipment - phone for conference calls, fax machines, photocopiers, scanners.
