The A&H MBU takes a full-spectrum approach to designing and servicing a robust slate of products tailored to needs in Employer Stop Loss, Excess Medical, Life, and Ancillary and Supplemental benefits. Our diversified business model includes program partnerships as well as direct sales in Employer Stop Loss. At year-end 2023, the MBU recorded $741M in gross premium written.

**Information about the Role, Line of Business and Team**:
This position offers a unique opportunity to work with an expanding team of high-quality leaders, in an entrepreneurial environment, with the benefits of a smaller organization but the security, stability and opportunity of a large company. The Associate Underwriter is responsible for managing the pricing for a small block of stop loss business. They will partner with our sales team to help grow the top line while ensuring we meet our target loss ratio. The Associate Underwriter will also assist more Senior Underwriters with case set up and making sure the correct reporting is received.

**What you will do**:

- Assess the information provided to develop sound Specific and Aggregate Stop Loss pricing recommendations for both prospective and inforce Employer Stop Loss accounts within the North River Underwriting Guidelines
- Ability to screen large claims data prior to sending for nurse review with assistance from a Sr UW/Manager
- Begin developing strategic relationships with sales and underwriters, brokers, third-party administrators (TPAs) and other external and internal partners
- Provide support for clients on plan designs and stop loss coverage with the support of the account manager
- Begin participating in the sales process by working with the Sr UW and sales team to formulate successful strategy
- Make independent recommendation within underwriting guidelines and seeking support from managers and also maintains proper file documentation
- Managed assigned workload for set up to meet productivity and timely service
- Manage workflow during high volume periods to meet assigned deadlines
- Ability to identify drivers of medical expenses in new and renewal cases
- Provide feedback to Management to provide input on Underwriting policies and procedures as necessary
- Coordinate with Administration to provide documentation in compliance with Underwriting policies and procedures for Audit
- Maintain profitable block according to department goals
- Travel 1-2 times per year to develop relationships
- Other duties as assigned
