**GENERAL STATEMENT OF WORK**
The Content Specialist in World Language provides leadership and assistance in implementing the essential curriculum, preparing assessments in the program, and conducting staff development for enhancing teaching strategies.
**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Master’s Degree in content area, curriculum development, assessment, current trends, or a related area.
- Licensure as an Administrator I (Supervisor) in Maryland preferred.
- A minimum of 5 years of exemplary teaching experience in World Language, preferably at the secondary level.
- Demonstrated leadership capability to include effective organization, communication, and human relations skills.
- Ability to plan, organize, administer, and evaluate programs.
- Experience in working with county, regional, and state professional committees or organizations helpful.
- A working knowledge of current trends, practices, and programs within the field of World Language.
**ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS**
- Collects and analyzes data to identify curricular, staff development, and assessment needs for the program.
- Organizes and administers committees for curriculum development and evaluation of instructional materials.
- Collaborates with central office and school-based staff to implement, monitor, and evaluate program status and needs.
- Provides technical assistance to schools, other content areas, and departments regarding the program.
- Plans, develops, and implements in-service and staff development courses relevant to the needs of professional personnel.
- Serves as program liaison to the Maryland State Department of Education and other agencies.
- Develops reports and provides information regarding program status for the school system and community groups.
- Prepares and monitors budgets related to the program.
**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Analyzes State testing data and other formative and summative assessment data related to student performance in World Language to determine program needs.
- Provides leadership in reviewing and revising World Language curricula.
- Works with central office and school-based staff to provide information regarding program needs, current trends, and technical assistance.
- Collaborates as part of an instructional team to support reading, writing, listening, speaking, and viewing skills across content.
- Provides essential staff development support to secondary World Language teachers.
- Provides support and direction to secondary department chairs and High School Resource Teachers.
- Develops a system of formative and summative measures to determine program status in World Language.
- Coordinates competitions, contests, and special projects related to the program.
- Coordinates program with federal, state, and local policies and regulations.
- Serves on committees inside and outside the division and school system as necessary.

**ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS**
The environmental factors and/or physical requirements of this position include the following: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to have ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations; and the ability to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and manipulate (lift, carry, move) light to medium weights of 10-50 pounds. Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand, and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp, and visual acuity to use a keyboard. The employee frequently is required to sit, reach with hands and arms, talk, and hear.
