- The Maine Department of Environmental Protection, Bureau of Remediation and Waste Management, is seeking to fill an Environmental Specialist III vacancy located in either Augusta, Bangor, or Portland._

**BRIEF JOB DESCRIPTION**: This position is a project manager in the Division of Remediation’s Uncontrolled Sites Unit. Work includes managing and directing the investigation and cleanup of properties contaminated with hazardous substances. The position coordinates professionals in the critical review, development, and implementation of investigation plans; quality assurance plans; conceptual site models; risk assessments; cleanup strategies; cost recovery; and final certification documents. The position will direct and review the work of environmental consultants hired by the Department or property owners. Work also includes site visits and the collection of soil, groundwater, and air samples at investigations led by the Department. The position may also manage projects in the Landfill Closure and Remediation Program, or other special projects, as priorities allow. Landfill work will include providing technical assistance to municipalities by reviewing closed landfill monitoring programs, inspecting the sites, collecting samples, and assessing risks posed by development near landfills.

This position requires statewide travel, which may occasionally include overnight travel with advance notice.

**MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS**: A six (6) year combination of education and/or experience in environmental, biological, physical science, or engineering, which includes two (2) years of environmental experience. Qualifying education must include at least 15 credit hours of science or engineering coursework from an accredited educational institution.
- Experience in environmental assessment, remediation, licensing, or enforcement.
- Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing with a variety of parties, such as the general public, municipal officials, and the regulated community.
- Strong organizational abilities and experience balancing multiple projects.
