Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, as part of its tripartite mission, is committed to training the next generation of researchers and caregivers. The goal of the Office for Student Engagement and Experience is to support the building of a pipeline of healthcare professionals by offering pre-professional opportunities to high school and college-age students with a particular focus on increasing those populations who are presently under-represented in medicine (both clinicians and researchers).

The Program Director for Office for Student Engagement and Experience is responsible for managing and overseeing all aspects of student experience within the BIDMC system including the high school/university student interns. This position requires an individual with strategic thinking, strong relationship-building and execution skills, a passion for mentoring and fostering pre-professional development opportunities for high school and university students, and a deep and continually growing understanding of the student opportunity landscape.

**Essential Responsibilities**:

- ** Design, develop and build the Office of Student Engagement and Experience from the ground up catering to both the Research and Clinical areas at BIDMC;**:

- ** Work with academic departments to identify student experience opportunities that meet the needs and/or requirements of students, faculty, and, in some cases, the host organization (e.g. state-run programs, high school summer programs, college internships, Harvard Medical School programs, etc.);**:

- ** Maintain an updated inventory and database of all student opportunities including identifying characteristics including (but not limited to): academic year, summer, research, clinical (MD, nursing, etc.) paid, volunteer, URIM focus, short-term, long-term, department contact, funding mechanism, etc.;**:

- ** Establish and maintain relationships with faculty, staff, state, and school officials to promote the student experience program and create new opportunities for students;**:

- ** Build relationships with state agencies, high schools, colleges, and related not-for-profits with funded positions for students to take advantage of a research or clinical experience at BIDMC;**:

- ** Facilitate and/or participate in a selection process for students for placements, upon request;**:

- ** With academic departments and other stakeholders, ensure that students are receiving a comprehensive and well-rounded experience that prepares them for their future careers. Complete an annual review of each placement to determine the continued value to the student, faculty member, and BIDMC;**:

- ** Develop and implement policies and procedures related to the student experience program, including but not limited to admission/acceptance, appropriate placement, student safety, student evaluations, and program effectiveness. This includes ensuring there is a consistent onboarding process with human resources, payroll, the relevant academic department, information technology, faculty and laboratory staff, and other critical stakeholders across the system. In addition, ensure a smooth exit process including a review of the placement;**:

- ** Oversee the day-to-day operations of the student experience program, including budgeting, staffing, and program evaluation;**:

- ** Serve as the “one-stop shop” for the student including guiding students in navigating the academic medical center and how to make the most of their experience;**:

- ** Collaborate with the BIDMC Director of Student Employment and Director of Volunteers, the Shapiro Institute, and departments that regularly provide student research, clinical, or office experience at BIDMC;**:

- ** Work closely with the leadership team to ensure that the student experience program is meeting the needs of BIDMC and contributing to its overall success.**:
**Qualifications**:

- ** Bachelor's degree in a related field required; Master's degree preferred.**:

- ** 8-10 years of experience in a similar role within an academic medical center, college, university, or similar environment.**:

- ** Experience working with student populations.**:

- ** Knowledge of student immigration and visa process and requirements.**:
