Westfield Public Schools is seeking qualified applicants for the following anticipated opening:
**BUSINESS TECHNOLOGY SHOP ASSISTANT**
**JOB SUMMARY**
Generally, the shop assistant shall take directions from the business technology instructors and assist students with instruction and hands-on activities.

**RESPONSIBILITIES**:

- Take attendance daily, record in attendance book and Power School
- Oversee sign out sheets for bathroom breaks, rooms 200 and 201
- Supervise student Office Manager at Copy Center
- Instruct students in phone etiquette, proper office management, operation of Canon copier and other office machines, and restocking supplies
- Take on and oversee various school project requests for laminating, book binding, designing and production of special event programs, and printing of such materials as certificates and awards
- Act as liaison between shop and other school entities such as office, nurse, academic teachers, other shop teachers and students
- Proofread and correct student-created documents (MS Word, Document Processing textbook)
- Scan and run off lesson materials as needed
- Do research for various items, books, learning aids
- Assist students wherever needed with instruction
- Assist with monitoring students for cheating - especially during testing. Watch for phone usage, excessive time out of shop and general adherence to school and shop rules
- Clean and organize classrooms, closets and office on a weekly basis
- Run and oversee operation of School Store during both lunches Monday-Thursday, including inventory and restocking activities
- Appoint a weekly manager and employee for School Store and guide them in their tasks, including training on the POS system
- Work with students on Fridays with cashing out of School Store, reporting income to the office, record-keeping, and promotional marketing activities
- Conduct shop voting, request check from office, and book van for trips to BJs
- Chaperone BJs trips ensure accurate purchasing
- Instruction of students on calculating profit margins and markup percentages, marketing efforts and merchandising
- Keep all records of transactions pertaining to the School Store, verifying balance on a regular basis
- Research vendors and arrange for purchase and delivery of all WTA promotional merchandise to sell at the Store
- Book, plan and coordinate all shop outings, field trips and visits
- Cover all related periods for teacher prep time
- Act as substitute when teachers are out sick or on personal leave, when there is not a sub provided
- Assist with budget by taking inventory of all supplies and books, creating lists of items needed, and putting WB Mason and other vendor orders in through office
- Instruction of Freshmen in Electronic office calculators (adding machines)
- Instruction of Sophomores in Publisher
- Instruction of Sophomores in Alphabetic Indexing and Filing (ARMA rules)
- Responsible to keep all BT student files organized and stored away
- Assign lockers at start of year, and oversee clean-out and securing them at years end
- Print, distribute and collect all necessary shop paperwork for all students, including shop safety exams
- Assist with Freshman safety trainings and all grade 9 Exploratory activities

**REPORTS TO**:
Building Principal

Terms of employment will be in accordance with the Westfield Public Schools Unit D contract.

Performance on this job will be evaluated in accordance with the Westfield School Committee policy on evaluation.
