Assistant Airport Manager

Under general supervision, an employee in this class is responsible for assisting the Airport Manager in planning and supervising the overall activities of Suffolk County's Gabreski Airport. Administrative supervision is received from the Airport Manager through personal consultation, written reports and through instructions on special assignments. Does related work as required.
- Assists in supervision of maintenance of the airport and buildings by conducting inspections and preparing reports and estimates of work required to comply with FAA standards;
- Assists with snow removal operations and airport emergency situations
- Prepares information and conducts research to assist in negotiations of contracts, leases and agreements for rental of real property;
- Assists in overseeing construction work done on the airfield by attending meetings and replying to requests for information;
- Assists with airfield escorts and airport security badging
- Assists in the preparation and maintenance of all account keeping, cost analysis, inventory and related business managements records, such as operation budget, capital budget;
- Prepares materials for meetings with the Airport Conservation Assessment Committee, Noise Mitigation Work Group, Gabreski Airport Community Advisory Board, and other civic meetings;
- Assists in issuing Notices to Airmen (NOTAMS) for conditions affecting the airfield;
- Assists with day to day operations in the office and on the field;
- Assists with training new airport staff members
- Assists with training contractors, vendors, and officials that require access to the airfield
- Assists with tenant relations and lease disputes or concerns
- Assists with the maintenance of the airport security plan
- Assists with fleet management
- Assists with forecasting aviation development and operations
- Assists with developing spreadsheets and analyzing airport operations/noise complaints/revenue and expenses/grant management/and various data driven items
- Assists with managing airport capital projects
- Assists with ensuring the airport remains a safe and secure facility that operates within the many federal, state, and local rules and regulations.
- This position does not offer relocation assistance at this time.

Target Salary: $82,841

CANDIDATES MUST MEET THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS LISTED BELOW:
Graduation from a New York State or Regionally accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Aviation Management and two (2) years of experience in airport administration or airport operations.
Exercises knowledge of standard record-keeping practices as related to airport operations; knowledge of airport maintenance and supplies, materials and equipment used for such work; knowledge of federal, state and local rules and regulations applicable to airport management; ability to plan, assign and direct the work of maintenance employees performing diversified maintenance and operational functions in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale; ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing; ability to organize and conduct airport meetings; ability to make independent decisions in the best interest of the airport; ability to coordinate emergencies and snow removal operations on the airfield; ability to multitask and troubleshoot throughout the day; physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position. Does related work as required.
