Tree Crew Ground Support

Grounds person is where most people start out, people coming into the industry with no prior knowledge and those that come from college programs.

A general job description would be: Working with a crew to help undertake the pruning or removal of trees and shrubs, operating a range of machinery including chainsaws, woodchipper, hedge trimmer, as well as hand tools used for pruning. Assisting in rigging operations by understanding the systems, controlling the rigging ropes and pull lines.

Even if you have had some tree climbing and pruning training, it is the kind of job where there are so many different aspects to learn about safety, machinery, techniques both on the ground and in the canopy, everyone needs to learn through experience.

**Roles/Responsibilities**:

- Assist tree climbers and other ground crew members in all aspects of tree care and removal.
- Hand or hoist tools and equipment to tree climber.
- Manage climbers’ ropes, keeping them free of entanglements on the ground.
- Position and steady ladders.
- Lower limbs and trunk sections by controlling ropes utilizing various techniques.
- Keep the job site safe & organized.
- Reduce sections of large limbs and trunks into lengths for firewood or chipping using saw.
- Rakes up debris and loads it on a truck or trailer.
- Work from the ground using handsaws, poles saws, chainsaws to cut brush, logs, and stumps of larger trees.
- Safely and efficiently operate equipment including chainsaw, chipper, and other industry tools.
- Properly maintain, prepare, and stow materials, tools, and equipment at work site.
- Work safely and comply with company policies and ANSI/OSHA regulations for tree care operations, including wearing all appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as provided by company.
- Safeguard employees and public from hazards in and around the work area, staying in frequent communication with workers aloft.
- Perform traffic and pedestrian control, and other relevant duties as operationally necessary.
- Helps enforce job safety practices.
- Performs related work as assigned.

**Qualifications/Requirements**:

- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Valid driver's license required.
- Commercial driver's license preferred and may be required.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from the startup location.
- Ability to meet physical demands of outdoor tree work.
- Must be able to lift, move and maneuver at least 50 pounds on an infrequent basis, and up to 20 pounds on a frequent basis.
- Due to the inherently dangerous nature of the industry and requirements to work with or around hazardous equipment, employees must be able to maintain attention and concentration for extended periods of time.
- Must be able to wear necessary PPE as required.
- Prior experience with trimming, limbing, chipper and saw operation is helpful.
- Relevant pesticide and related certifications are highly valuable.
- **Introductory Period **(also known as probation period) **starts at $15.00 per hour.**_

Pay: $17.41 - $23.84 per hour

Expected hours: 35 - 40 per week
