**_The ESL Instructor position is required to report in-person at Adelanto, CA._**

**SUMMARY**
The ESL Instructor provides appropriate instruction to adults from various ethnic and cultural backgrounds. The ESL Instructor delivers individual and group academic support to promote the development, success, and retention of students. Demonstrate native
- like proficiency in spoken and written English. Demonstrate the ability and skills to explain English grammar and usage to ESL students at their level of understanding.

**ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES** includes, but not limited to the following. Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned.
- Utilizes up-to-date ESL methodology to maximize students’ learning experience.
- Develop instructional materials as needed.
- Maintain positive classroom climate as well as demonstrate sensitivity to values and cultures of students.
- Prepare appropriate reports and maintain records.
- Create different instructional strategies, multiple techniques, and a variety of materials to accommodate various styles of learning.
- Collaborate with other educators and staff members in a professional learning environment to provide a welcoming and rigorous classroom culture for adult learners.
- Participate in professional growth activities.
- Become familiar with language teaching principles and methodology.
- Counsel students as to academic progress, behavior and attendance.
- Utilize available texts and online resources to provide instruction to students.
- Proctor pre-and post-assessments and use assessment information to guide instruction.
- Maintain accurate and complete student records as required by laws and administrative policies.

**QUALIFICATIONS**

- Knowledge and consistent practice of policies and procedures for the Corps Members and FIELD.
- Knowledge and consistent practice of the ethical guidelines as outlined by FILED and federal, state and local laws, rules and regulations.
- Training and/or experience in language acquisition, diagnosis of learning difficulties, individualized instruction, competency-based education, curriculum development, and student counseling.
- Ability to effectively address and meet a wide range of academic, social/emotional and development needs for all types of learners.
- Skill in counseling and developing student performance.
- Ability to maintain complete and accurate records and statistics and to develop meaningful reports from that information.
- Ability to effectively express ideas orally and in writing.
- Ability to exercise considerable tact and courtesy.
- Possess the skills needed to learn and utilize software and other technology required to facilitate online instruction as applicable.
- Must be detail oriented and organized.
- Must be a team player.

**EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE**
- Bachelor’s degree in education, English, linguistics, applied linguistics, any foreign language, composition, bilingual/bicultural studies, reading, or speech; and a certificate in teaching ESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first year of employment.

OR
- Bachelor’s degree with any of the majors specified above; and one year of experience teaching English as a second language in an accredited institution; and a certificate in teaching in teaching ESL, which may be completed concurrently during the first two (2) years of employment.
- Experience providing ESL Instruction to variety of learners, preferred.

**CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS**
Must have or enroll in a TESOL/TEFL certificate program during the first nine (9) months of employment and complete the program within one (1) year of hire
