Director of Facilities Management

The American Academy of Ophthalmology is looking for a Director of Facilities Management.
In collaboration with the Chief Operating Officer, provides strategic vision, leadership, coordination and administrative oversight to all organizational Real Estate Portfolio, Space Planning, Replacement & Renewal (R&R), Emergency Management, Building Services Oversite, Design, Construction, and Facilities & Operations. Administers the budgets for these areas, and establishes and implements short and long-range goals, objectives, and strategic plans. Ensures positive and productive relationships with community leaders, external organizations, building tenants, and other stakeholders.
**Responsibilities**:
- Leadership and Supervision: Provide leadership and effective supervision to the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability.
- Strategic Planning: Develop and execute comprehensive strategic plans for organizational offices in San Francisco and Washington, D.C., aligning with overarching business objectives.
- Capital Improvement: Spearhead the development and implementation of capital improvement plans, identifying key opportunities to enhance infrastructure and operational efficiency.
- Property and Facility Management Oversight: Ensure optimal performance and maintenance of properties and facilities under management, optimizing functionality and safety.
- Service Offerings: Conceptualize, propose, and implement innovative service offerings that add value to employees and stakeholders.
- Policy Development and Administration: Develop, implement, and administer comprehensive office and building policies and procedures, encompassing health and safety protocols, emergency preparedness measures, and stringent cost controls to mitigate risks effectively.
- Financial Management: Create, monitor, and optimize departmental income, expense, and capital budgets, leveraging financial data and performance metrics to drive informed decision-making and ensure fiscal responsibility.
**Requirements**:
- Ten plus of property and facility management practices and principles as well as project management
- Building system operations, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing and energy management principles and practices.
- Basic accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Construction techniques, practices and standards.
- Risk management approaches related to facilities and related services
- Strategic planning with problem solving abilities
- Critical thinking skills to analyze and illustrate data and develop recommendations.
- Promote teamwork, collaboration & cooperation while providing leadership
- Public speaking and presentation
- Training development and delivery
- Writing (information, policies, procedures, etc.)
- Ability to communicate with all levels of staff with clarity, diplomacy and tact
- Ability to align perspectives and approaches with other divisions/departments to ensure success for the end user, including with the Academy’s Information Technology Vice President and teams
- College degree in engineering or management or combination of education and facility management experience is desirable.
- Affiliations with IFMA (International Facility Management Association) or BOMA (Building Owners and Managers Association) or related organizations and related certifications are extremely desirable. Examples include: Certified Facility Manager (CFM, Facility Management, FMP Facilities Management Professional, Administrator (FMA), Real Property Administrator (RPA) or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
- Travel Requirements: approx., 7-10 days/annual (e.g. Annual Mtg plus 1-2 times per year for other meetings)
- Remote Work Eligibility: with approval, eligible for 3 days remote
- Mandatory Vaccination Compliance: ability to provide proof of COVID-19 vaccination prior to employment
**Salary**: $162,768 - $171,335
