**PreK-4 Job Description**

Mount Aviat is seeking an enthusiastic PreK-4 teacher to guide a classroom of young children in a variety of educational activities. The educator is responsible to teach the fundamental concepts children need to know for kindergarten, including early literacy and math skills, appropriate interaction with others, and how to work effectively in a classroom environment.

Patience, compassion, and energy are vital qualities for success in this role. The early childhood educator should be capable of inspiring, encouraging, and developing young children, respecting the different abilities, challenges, and personalities of each one. The teacher should also have a creative mindset and good administrative skills, in order to plan and execute lessons which are innovative and achieve the desired learning outcomes.

**Professional Standards** - Teachers will
- fulfill their duties under the authority of the principal.
- promote the purpose of Catholic education by word and example through their personal and professional lives, both in and outside of school.
- encourage students to follow standards of behavior appropriate to their age, respect the school's regulations, and respect for all persons and property.
- promote growth through the use of their own talents and professional skills which encourage students' enthusiastic participation in the learning process.
- communicate regularly with parents.
- familiarize themselves with school policies and curriculum guidelines.

**Instruction of students** - Teachers are responsible
- to prepare lesson plans based on the school’s approved curriculum.
- to plan activities to meet the needs of the class and individual students.
- to use assessment data to determine appropriate instruction and differentiation.
- to use diverse teaching methods and strategies to interest and instruct the students.
- to familiarize themselves with school policies, guidelines, and curriculum.
- to keep abreast of current educational practices and be willing to adapt to changing needs.

**PreK-4 Teacher Requirements**
- Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education or equivalent.
- Hold a Maryland PreK-3 certification or be eligible for certification.
- Proven experience as an early childhood teacher.
- A thorough understanding of best practices in teaching.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Organized, flexible disposition.
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
