Assistant Principal

The duty of the Assistant Principal of Special Education is to assist the Principal in planning, initiating, and administering the Special Education program.

**Specific Responsibilities**:

- Review and modify academic curriculum to define units of study, benchmarks and forms of assessment which meet New York State Learning Standards.
- Oversee administration of standardized assessment in conjunction with the principal.
- Assist in the interview process for teaching and support staff.
- Supervise teacher and staff assignment, duties and responsibilities.
- Conduct observations and evaluations of teachers and support staff.
- Provide training and supervision to all Special Education substitute teachers.
- Administer Student Code of Conduct, Positive Behavioral Intervention and Support and the Critical Incidents Stress Management.
- Assist staff with student discipline issues. Refer serious misconduct to the Principal and Director.
- Assist with the assessment, development, coordination and implementation of student awareness programs concerning Peer and Sexual Harassment.
- Provide supervision for the arrival and departure of students.
- Update and implement the Special Education Building Safety Plan.
- Plan, coordinate and conduct emergency response and fire drills.
- Conduct planning meetings with emergency response teams.
- Review and make recommendations regarding field trips and schedule transportation.
- Support and supervise student Special Education activities.
- Supervise fundraising for clubs.
- Assist with facility work orders and space planning.
- Prepare schedules for staff bus duty assignments
- Assist with assessment, development, coordination and implementation of students awareness programs concerning Peer and Sexual Harassment.
- Other duties as assigned.

**Job Qualifications**
- NYS Administrator Certification required
