**DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES / ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS**
- This is a field position 95% of the time.
- Inspects various establishments or locations to detect water pollution violations and sanitary sewer discharge parameters.
- Investigates community complaints of poor sanitation in public establishments or on private property; explains City health ordinances and recommends corrective action; performs follow-up inspections; issues warnings or citations.
- May issue citations to operators not in compliance with Chapter 47 Art XI Transportation of Special Waste.
- Appears in court for testimony regarding violations; provides testimony in enforcement hearings.
- May assist in training new hires or assist in special projects.
- Must cross train and may conduct inspections in Pools, EMS and Food Programs.
- May assist other program inspections based on Bureau’s needs.

**WORKING CONDITIONS**
The position routinely requires lifting of moderately heavy items, such as typewriters or records boxes (up to 40 pounds) and/or very long periods of walking on rough surfaces on a routine basis. There are occasional exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve infrequent exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS**:
**EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
Requires a Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Health Engineering or a closely related degree.

**EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS**
One year of pollution/environmental control experience is required

**LICENSE REQUIREMENTS**
None

**PREFERENCES**:
