**ABOUT THE **OPPORTUNITY**
The Court Attendant Trainee performs responsible and specialized administrative duties as a Deputy Clerk of the Court assigned to a civil courtroom. Performs other work as assigned or required. Incumbents provide courtroom and case processing support, advise the public of acceptable courtroom decorum, and functions as the Court's liaison with jurors; and performs other work as assigned or required.
The Court Attendant Trainee is used as the entry level classification for training purposes. Incumbents must demonstrate satisfactory performance and advance to Court Attendant (journey level) class by the end of the twelve (12) month probationary period. There is no permanent status as a Trainee. Upon promotion incumbents serve six (6) month promotional probation.
Court Attendants are distinguished from Legal Processing Specialists (LPS) in that the Court Attendants support the efficient operation of their assigned civil courtrooms, maintain the integrity of the jury, and perform other duties to support the courtroom. LPS work primarily in the public service areas of the Clerk's Offices rather than in civil courtrooms and are assigned to all case types. Court Attendants may also be assigned to perform tasks outside the courtroom but the primary function is to support civil courtrooms.
Incumbents are required to exercise excellent judgment and perform their duties with the highest degree of integrity in order to uphold the public's trust and confidence in the administration of justice.

**Examples of Duties**:

- Duties may include, but are not limited to the following:_

Open court sessions; serve as liaison between attorneys, jurors, witnesses, parties to cases and the judicial officers and other courtroom staff

Observe people and activities during court sessions and report disruptions, security violations or suspicious items to Sheriff's or other appropriate personnel; use alarm systems and contact appropriate resource in the event of emergency situations; comply with evacuation plan and report actions as necessary
- . Direct members of the media and the public to appropriate area or personnel and respond to questions in a courteous and service-oriented manner
- . Instruct jurors and the public on appropriate courtroom protocol
- . Assist courtroom clerks during jury selection process
- . Review documents for completeness, accuracy and conformance to rules, codes, policies, and protocols
- . Prepare court calendars, documents and case files for hearings

One (1) year full time (or equivalent) experience of clerical, customer service, legal/court case processing or other experience that would demonstrate possession of the required knowledge and abilities.
