**THE DEPARTMENT**

The Office of Undergraduate Research (OUR) Associate will undertake administrative studies of considerable scope and complexity. The OUR Associate pursues projects related to undergraduate research. These projects or studies are broad in scope and encompass many inter-related issues, university divisions, departments, and colleges. The OUR Associate will review the progress of the projects periodically and produce annual reports. The OUR Associate is responsible for recognizing the side issues or related problems for further inquiry and for recommending lines of approach to incorporate them into the main projects or to pursue them through a separate project. The OUR Associate will also manage the office, including overseeing student assistants, overseeing all events and programs, and working with the director in setting goals and objectives for the OUR.

**DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES**
- Performs preliminary planning of projects related to undergraduate research. These projects can include:

- Retention and Graduation Initiatives
- Study of student characteristics for undergraduate research
- The Student RSCA Conference and CARS
- Management of existing UR programs
- Maintenance of the student database
- Grant writing to increase external support for the OUR
- Develop assessment tools; meet with various organizations, divisions, departments, and colleges for feedback on activities; prepare analyses of findings; and develop recommendations for future plans or actions.
- Responsible for initiating and carrying on contacts with others on campus, State agencies, federal agencies, private companies, and other academic institutions for information gathering, exchanging ideas, and coordinating findings and recommendations.
- Develop working relations with campus staff and others in the Office of the Chancellor to coordinate projects with other departments and activities.
- Handles the day-to-day functions of the OUR, including preparing budget reports and overseeing student assistants. Independently plans, coordinates, and assesses activities and initiatives of the OUR.
- Prepares draft reports and procedures, participates with the OUR Director in the negotiations necessary to clear the drafts, and is responsible for the final product. Provide information, assistance, and leadership to the campus and serve on committees related to the Associate's area of expertise.

**QUALIFICATIONS**
- Four years of progressively responsible administrative, technical, or professional analytical experience which demonstrates ability to conduct substantive surveys and studies of problems and issues in assigned areas.

OR
- The rank of Associate Professor or higher in a four-year college or university and demonstrated experience in research or special study work may be substituted for the four years of experience.
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university.

**Preferred Qualifications**
- Master's degree (MS, MA, MPA) or equivalent full-time experience.
- Familiarity with CSU and CPP policies and programs.
- Ability to work with external academic entities; ability to work closely with internal academic offices; ability to provide strategic direction to programs and office.
