**Lower School Tutoring Department Head (Academic Year)**:

**Position Summary**:
**Responsibilities**:

- Regularly meet, observe and coach all Lower School tutors in order to meet students’ needs.
- Communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, and administrators.
- Set agenda and lead department meetings.
- Plan and/or deliver professional development for tutors to further their knowledge and expertise in Orton-Gillingham.
- Manage completion of tutor administrative responsibilities.
- Work collaboratively with the Director of GIFTT for tutorial assignments of trainees, hiring of new faculty tutors from GIFTT training program, OG Certification Process (Associate, Certified, FIT) for all faculty.
- Work in collaboration with other Lower School Department Heads to create schedules, tutor assignments, discuss curriculum, student data, and progress.
- Serve on Lower School Academic Leadership Team for weekly meetings.
- Regularly meet with the LS Language Department to review students of concern; and with Middle/Upper School Tutor Department Heads and Middle/Upper School Language Department Heads.
- Work with Language Department Head and MS Tutor Department Head in forming and reviewing Curriculum Based Assessments, report cards and other assessments.
- Coordinate with Lower School Language Department Head to select students for OG Focus Areas:

- Throughout the summer, work with the scheduling team to review recommendations and testing data in order to assign and schedule students to OG Focus Areas: small group, pairs, and one to one tutorial based on their profile.
- Continually evaluate all LS tutorial placements and make any necessary adjustments.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor’s Degree
- Orton-Gillingham trained and membership in the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners at the Certified Level with desire to become a "Fellow in Training"
- Minimum of five years of tutoring or teaching children with language-based learning differences
- Strong organizational, interpersonal, and supervisory skills
- Prior management experience in an education setting preferred
- Has the ability to:

- Communicate effectively with parents, students, teachers, and administrators, especially about programs
- Be able to problem-solve, particularly situations regarding students’ placement
- Convey ideas clearly both orally and in writing
- Manage time and set priorities
- Be flexible
