Under the direction of the Branch Chief (DESA III), the Operations Support Bureau Chief (OSBC) is responsible for a staff of specialized DEA IIIs, engaged in program policy analysis/interpretation, resolution of medical services issues and the case intake process. Additionally, the OSBC is responsible for the overall planning, directing and coordinating of activities involving support staff who perform a variety of complex, specialized support operations, which include overall responsibility for case intake and equalization, Personnel, CE billing/auditing, Material and Stores (including shipping, receiving and facility management) and master files. The OSBC assists in the planning, development and evaluation of the Branch's goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Handles routine administrative matters on behalf of the Branch Chief, and will prepare and discuss administrative reports with management staff. Interprets allocation and encumberance reports to assist the management team with appropriate resource allocation. Provides evaluation of Statewide operational policies for the Branch and deals directly with the DDSD Program Services Bureau in the Central Support Branch for clarification. Performs public relations/liaison activities with Social Security district offices, County Welfare Department offices, the medical community and other interested parties. Assists Case Adjudication Bureau to evaluate timeliness and adequacy of medical reports from treating sources and CE panel members and works to resolve problems in this area. Serves as the Branch Security Officer. Under the direction of the State Security Officer, conducts semi-annual reviews of Branch security systems as mandated by the Federal government. Tests and Monitors security safeguards and prepares reports on the status and effectiveness of systems. As part of the Administrative team, the OSBC exercises judgment in making decisions affecting all aspects of the Bureau/Branch.
