Energy Assistance Program Assistant

POSITION PURPOSE AND OBJECTIVES: To assist with the implementation of the Energy Assistance Program/Community Outreach in a manner compliant with all federal, state and program specific regulations. To serve low-income households by providing intake and eligibility determination for the Energy Assistance Program and other programs as provided by the Area IV Agency designated Community Action Program Counties: Boone, Carroll, Clinton, Hamilton, Hendricks, Tippecanoe, and White.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Work in cooperation with other staff to implement the Assigned Program(s) according to State and Federal Guidelines.
- Assist Coordinator with recruitment, training, and technical assistance of staff/volunteers providing direct services to clients.
- Assist Coordinator to ensure that appropriate action is taken for the resolution of complaints from clients, vendors, and staff.
- Assist Coordinator in working with internal service departments such as Communication and Development to promote programs through brochures, media, and community presentations.
- Assist Coordinator in monitoring the quality of work of the Energy Assistance Intake Specialists.
- Network and develop contacts with other community agencies and businesses throughout ALL Area IV Agency EAP Counties to increase awareness of the Energy Assistance Program and Area IV Agency.
- Answer phone calls, inquiries, schedule appointments, take and respond to messages.
- Other duties as assigned by the EAP Coordinator, Deputy Director of CAP, or Executive Director.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS: High school diploma or equivalent and one (1) year experience working with the public. Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be able to effectively communicate with staff, clients, and inter/intra agencies. Must possess the ability to evaluate and react to change in positive and productive manner. Must possess the ability to organize and multi-task as well as exercise critical thinking skills to solve problems. Must possess strong computer skills and have the ability to learn new systems and programs. Must have the ability to maintain client confidentiality and to exercise ethical judgment, integrity, dependability and accountability in the performance of duties. Must possess a valid Indiana Driver’s license and dependable transportation to provide services in counties served by Area IV.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform the essential functions of this position, the employee is regularly required with or without reasonable accommodations to sit, stand, bend and reach with manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office machines such as computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones and other office equipment. The position may require long periods of data entry. The position requires normal range of hearing and vision. May require lifting of up to 30 pounds.
