**Position Summary**:
This employee has the responsibility for coordination of total customer care. The Nursing Supervisor performs supervisory and professional work in directing and coordinating nursing units. The individual must have had advanced training and broad nursing experience including supervisory duties. The work requires administrative ability, knowledge of training techniques, ability to adapt techniques and procedures in accordance with unusual situations, and the exercise of initiative and good judgment. The work is carried out according to standards of professional nursing practices, center policies, rules and regulations, and State and Federal standards.

**Responsibilities/Accountabilities**:
1. Verifies, daily staffing and redistribution, as necessary;
2. Collaborates with all charge nurses daily, to exchange information regarding

customer care, customer condition and all matters affecting customer well-being (i.e. admissions, discharges, transfers, out of or within the building), makes recommendations regarding nursing process, and communicates concerns to

supervisors of other departments and DON;
3. Makes rounds; giving special

attention to critically ill customers;
4. Ensures that the individual nursing care plan is followed for each customer;
5. Performs medication passes and/or direct customer care as needed;
6. Participates in customer care committee meetings;
7. Reinforces the training and orientation of nursing personnel and provides positive

reinforcement;
8. Answers any/all emergencies throughout the shift (i.e., change of customer

condition, starting IV's, pronouncement of death);
9. Assists in assuring a safe and sanitary environment for customers, employees, and

visitors;
10. Assures the building is secure during the evening and night hours by checking

doors and alarms according to nursing center protocols;
11. Review incident and investigative reports for accuracy and completeness;
12. Monitors meal service on the units and in the dining areas to identify issues

requiring intervention and to assure customer meal satisfaction and nutritional

adequacy;
13. Assists in the development and implementation of the nursing center Q.I. program;
14. Puts Customer Service First: Ensures that customers and families receive the

highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere that

recognizes the individuals' needs and rights;
15. Performs other duties as requested;
Specific Educational Vocational Requirements:
1. The Nursing Supervisor must be a currently licensed within the

state.

2. Experience in the nursing field, especially in geriatric nursing.

3. Supervisory experience in long-term care is preferred.

Job Skills:
1. Must have a thorough knowledge of nursing theory, techniques, and practices.

2. Must have thorough knowledge of the specialized procedures applied and

equipment used in the area to which assigned.

3. Must have knowledge of dietetics, sanitation, and personal hygiene.

4. Must have knowledge of medications, their proper dosage, and expected results.

5. Must have skill in handling and manipulating instruments and equipment.

6. Must be able to coordinate and supervise the nursing functions in an effective

manner.

7. Must be able to maintain an empathetic attitude toward customers and to gain

their confidence in order to work with them effectively.

8. Must have the ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions of a

technical nature.

9. Must be able to recognize identify symptoms and to make decisions quickly in

emergencies.

10. Must be able to train subordinates in work procedures and to organize and direct

training carried out by members to the staff.

11. Must possess the ability to positively interact with personnel, customers, family

members, visitors, government agencies/personnel, and the general public.

12. Must provide annual verification of a negative TB skin test.

Performs Related Duties:
1. The Nursing Supervisor interacts with customers, families, and visitors

2. He/She carries out other tasks as requested in situations where hands-on intervention participation may be required.
