This position is ideally suited to a trades professional with an interest in and knowledge of firearms, archery, and shooting sports. Work tasks focus on maintaining shooting range facilities and equipment. The employee in this position will work in the vicinity of live firing activity and archery activity. The program seeks a multi-faceted employee with a broad knowledge of various trades disciplines and an understanding of how those trades support a shooting facility.
This full-time position maintains grounds, facilities, and equipment at the Southeast Regional Park, Tucson Mountain Park, and Clay Target Center Shooting Facilities. It may require occasional trips to the Virgil Ellis range in Ajo. Duties include landscaping; irrigation system maintenance; fabrication and repair of wooden target frames, shelving, etc; fabrication and repair of metal targets and frames (requiring welding); concrete work; maintenance and repair of clay target launching machines; minor repairs to buildings, facilities, and exterior structures; electrical wiring for target system equipment. The use of a telescoping forklift and spraying of herbicides and pesticides may be done on occasion.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:
As defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, this classification may include any of the following tasks, knowledge, skills, and other characteristics. This list is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not a comprehensive listing of all functions and tasks performed by incumbents of this class. Work assignments may vary depending on the department’s need and will be communicated to the applicant or incumbent by the supervisor.
- Cuts, trims, edges, seeds, fertilizes, stripes ball field and leisure turf;
- Structurally prunes, shapes, and maintains urban forest and ground vegetation;
- Performs minor repairs and adjustments to plumbing and irrigation systems;
- Operates ride-on equipment and utilizes powered maintenance and construction equipment/tools ;
- Performs operator-level inspections, servicing, maintenance, and security of assigned tools, equipment, and vehicles;
- Applies paints, varnish, stains, and other finishes to interior and exterior surfaces, trimmings and fixtures;
- Stores, handles, applies, and disposes of hazardous materials required to complete work or generated by work assignments;
- Collection and disposal of trash;
- Maintains and uses safety and personal protective equipment;
- Explains rules, regulations, or procedures to the public and/or vendors;
- Some positions may be assigned to a natural resource park setting, whereby, maintenance may include wildlife drinkers, ponds, equestrian, camp facilities, trails, habitat restoration, erosion control, and invasive species.

**Minimum Qualifications**:
**(1) One year of experience performing duties in landscape, grounds maintenance, arborist, equipment operator, general handyman, or similar duties in a specific skill, craft, vocation, trade, or operational area of employment.**

**(Relevant experience and/or education from an accredited college or university may be substituted.)**

**OR**:
**(2) Six months of experience within Pima County as a Parks Helper or other helper-level position.**
- Experience with/knowledge of maintenance and repair of clay target launching machines.
- Possess a current AZ Pesticides License for Core, Ornamental/Turf, and Right of Way Certifications.
- Experience as a forklift operator (preferred telescoping forklift).
- Experience as tractor operator with front bucket.
- Experience with/knowledge of landscaping with hand tools and powered equipment.
- Experience with/knowledge of basic carpentry.
- Experience with/knowledge of concrete work.
- Experience with/knowledge of irrigation system maintenance and repair (piping, PVC, etc.).
- Experience with/knowledge of welding.
- Experience with/knowledge of basic electrical wiring on equipment.
