Summary:
The SPL Team Leader is a registered professional nurse who plans, directs, and evaluates the nursing process and related activities to ensure that all facets of the plan of care are implemented via appropriate delegation. In collaboration with the Director of Perioperative Services, the team leader plans a standard of care and safe practices for patients in special procedures and the radiology (modalities) departments.

Licensure/Educational Requirements:

- RN required, BSN preferred

- Maintains the daily/monthly staffing and call schedules
- Maintains accurate time keeping records
- Inputs daily staffing numbers into SMR
- Effectively leads daily SPL huddle
- In collaboration with Director, maintains accurate biweekly position control
- Understands the Time Out process for procedural patients
- Assists in procedural cases when necessary or during times of high volume
- Effectively utilizes AIDET when rounding on patients and families.
- Understands the chain of command for patient complaints and grievances
- Understands the ordering process for supplies (i.e. forms, office supplies, storeroom)
- Manages process for sending scopes out for repair
- May assist Director in obtaining quotes for instruments and supplies
- Maintains accurate reporting logs for the Medivator and submits to Director monthly
- In collaboration with the Director, reviews department policies and procedures
- Maintains department adherence to isolation precautions and protocols
- May be asked to participate in meetings or committees as deemed necessary by the Director
- Performs medication discrepancy/narcotic inventory weekly
- Checks crash carts and tests them daily
- Utilizes Rivernet resources: Credential Stream, ecards, connection cards, service requests, Daisy / Starfish / Butterfly nominations, etc.
- Knowledge of Vendor process for SPL Knowledge of SPD sterile room and instrument drop off process

**Responsibilities**:

- Coordinates care delivery through the utilization of department, organization and community models and resources; critical thinking; interdisciplinary teamwork; patient advocacy; and the unique nurse-patient connection, and identifies and uses available resources to define and implement the plan of care.
- Serves a resource for all staff with regards safe practice, adherence to policy, resource management, staffing and conflict resolution.
- Detects and collects comprehensive data and identifies patterns pertinent to the patient's health and unique situation.
- Develops a plan that prescribes strategies and alternatives to attain expected outcomes, based on the patient's individualized situation and anticipated needs.
- In collaboration with the Director, the team leader will positively effect change through engagement, involvement, and participation of peers and colleagues, leading others where they need to be rather than where they want to go (American Nurses Credentialing Center [ANCC]).
- Enhances the quality and effectiveness of nursing practice through communication, documentation, initiation of change, creativity, innovation, participation in quality improvement (QI), evidence-based practice (EBP), and research processes.
- Evaluates one's own nursing practice in relation to the Illinois Nurse Practice Act and professional practice standards and guidelines.
- Implements the identified plan based on the nursing process, our nursing mission and philosophy, and our organization's mission.
- Maintains the ability to check in vendors and visitors and communicate our policies while also holding them accountable.
- Creates and manages the daily SPL and Radiology schedules with consideration to optimal utilization, staff training, mandatory meetings and orientation.
- Creates and manages the call schedule by distributing call amongst the staff fairly and evenly.
- Creates and manages the staffing schedule with consideration to block utilization and call needs, and time off requests.
- Maintain accurate time keeping and WFM reports in conjunction with the daily shift management reports (SMR).
