**DESCRIPTION:
Michael Baker International is seeking a communications specialist with more than 5 years of experience to join our team. This role will involve contributing to marketing, communications, and outreach initiatives, including communications planning, and executing marketing communications programs. Working closely with the communications manager and other Michael Baker staff the communications specialist will support the expansion of risk communications and outreach capacity within the Emergency Management and Response Office.

The role will involve contributing to communications initiatives aimed at enhancing the ability to recover faster and reducing vulnerability to natural disasters such as flooding, earthquakes, and wildfires, as well as addressing the impacts of climate change. The communications specialist will contribute to the groundbreaking nationwide Community Engagement and Risk Communications (CERC) contract, aimed at building a more robust, customer-centered engagement program nationwide to enhance flood risk data development and promote resilience. Work on other contracts and in support of EMR is also expected.

**Responsibilities include**:

- Contribute to strategy development and drafting marketing plans and campaigns.
- Develop impactful writing and targeted strategy to support marketing and business goals.
- Review project requirements and confer with managers and technical staff to determine assistance required in project execution.
- Support the collection and development of best practices.
- Support the implementation of the Risk Map Program.
- Lead the management of communication projects, advancing client and company objectives.
- Assist in the support financial oversight FEMA contracts.
- Interact with clients to ensure satisfactory customer service.
- Create client communications, invoices, and cost estimates.
- Review materials developed by other team members. Other duties as assigned.

**PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS**
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in marketing and communications. Previous experience with risk communications and prior work with FEMA is a plus.
- Four-year bachelor’s degree in marketing and communications or related discipline or equivalent professional experience.
- Due to contract requirements, being a U.S. Citizen and/or the ability to obtain a Public Trust Clearance is required.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills, proactive communicator, and problem-solver.
- Experience with FEMA’s Risk Mapping, Assessment and Planning (Risk MAP) Program.
- Experience implementing FEMA and State requirements of the National Flood Insurance Program.
- Experience with community engagement activities.
- Strong attention to detail and demonstrated ownership and accountability for work.
- Capability to work in a dynamic environment, including a demonstrated willingness to be flexible and adaptable to changing priorities.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Must be able to build rapport and establish positive relationships with existing and prospective Michael Baker International clients to ensure client-focused performance.
- Must be able to provide counsel to clients when appropriate on strategy and projects.
- Solid work ethic and the drive to be an effective member of the company and professional community.
- Ability to work collaboratively with a wide array of individuals from various backgrounds, including floodplain manager, engineers; planners; GIS professionals; federal, tribal, and state government officials; and the public.

**PREFERRED**
- Certified Floodplain Manager (CFM)
- Experience working with FEMA. Ability to travel periodically, as needed (less than 25%).

**COMPENSATION**
The approximate compensation range for this position is $83,038 to $119,901. This compensation range is a good faith estimate for the position at the time of posting. Actual compensation is dependent upon factors such as education, qualifications, experience, skillset, and physical work location.
