Special Education Coordinator

3. Minimum of five years teaching experience
REPORTS TO: Director of Special Services and Building Principal
SUPERVISES: Special Education Staff in cooperation with building administrators
COLLABORATES
WITH: Assistant Student Services Director and Building Administrators
JOB GOAL: To assure that all students identified as having an educational disability receive a free and appropriate public education.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Oversees the implementation of Special Education services in accordance with the law and current New Hampshire rules. This individual is an integral part of the building leadership team.
- Supports staff, administration, students, and parents as the leader with expertise in providing quality educational support for students with special needs.
- Assists the Director of Special Services with developing the school’s special education budget.
- Participates in District Special Services Leadership meetings.
- Serves as the School District representative at building student services team meetings (for new referrals, student monitoring, re-evaluation discussions, etc.)
- Provides leadership and expertise in facilitating positive instructional outcomes for students.
- Consults with staff regarding supervision of students and school management.
- Services as liaison/LEA representative with outside agencies (and Windham School District at Salem High School).
- Assists in facilitating student transitions.
- Collaborates with the Assistant Student Services Director in the development and implementation of extended school year programs.
- Supervises special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in cooperation with building administration.
- Evaluates special education teachers, specialists, and instructional assistants in consultation with appropriate building/district staff.
- Oversees distribution of special education caseloads and deployment of support staff.
- Participates in the recruitment, training, and mentoring of new special education staff.
- Monitors the effectiveness of the building process from pre-referral to placement and service delivery.
- Supervises IEP teams to ensure each student is provided with the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE).
- Follows protocol for responding to new referrals and the development of evaluation questions.
- Supervises building compliance with NHSEIS, re-evaluation guidelines, and placement team meetings.
- Performs other duties as directed by the Director of Special Services.
