The Director of EHS will be assigned feature productions to ensure overall compliance with all applicable company, federal, state, local and/or international environmental, occupational safety and health policies, rules, and regulations. Additionally, the Director of EHS will provide guidance and support to fellow EHS Managers as they encounter difficulties in their own feature safety oversight.
- Implement, maintain, and develop appropriate safety programs, (e.g., Injury and Illness Prevention Program) policies, and procedures as necessary to ensure a safe and healthful work environment for all employees and guests of the productions.
- Communicate with Production Executives, Production Management, Cast, Crew to ensure that all EHS expectations are being met.
- Establish, administer, and enforce a program of safe practices for all production personnel.
- Ensure appropriate pre-lease inspections are conducted for all potential production spaces and resolve any identified EHS issues.
- Conduct a review/breakdown of each script on their assigned film to identify potential EHS issues (e.g., special effects, stunts, use of props, unusual activities, and hazardous locations).
- Participate and often attend each production’s tech scout and production meeting, as necessary, to understand scheduled production activities and provide guidance for any safety issues.
- Prepare a location safety memo, as required, to inform the production employees of general location safety issues as well as specific location safety concerns.
- Establish and implement procedures for proper hazardous waste accumulation and disposal following company policies.
- Assist the production in following company’s hazardous waste procedure and that manifests are collected and submitted in a timely manner.
- Facilitate and/or conduct EHS testing of any location that presents potential EHS hazards (e.g., testing water quality, air quality, coordinating abatement and/or encapsulation of areas or materials).
- Attend stunt rehearsals and special effect tests to provide input from the EHS perspective and be on set during the shooting of these stunts and effects, as necessary.
- Provide education and safety training to production crew, supervisors and management in safety awareness, safe work practices, documentation requirements, and general regulatory compliance, as necessary.
- Establish a safety committee on productions lasting longer than one year in duration, or when governmental regulations require a committee.
- Provide EHS equipment or instruments, when applicable, to assist in compliance of EHS laws and programs. If equipment or instruments are not available, provide contacts where equipment can be procured.
- Discuss the injury and illness paperwork process with the designated production contact and production medics to ensure forms are completed properly.
- Conduct investigations of all accidents, incidents, significant events, and emergencies promptly in accordance with company policies and applicable laws and regulations.
- Review Injury and Illness log to ensure that all cases are being properly entered into the Benchmark ESG GenSuite software program and follow-up is being entered and closure verifications are being done.
- Review Benchmark ESG GenSuite Audits, Events and Inspections to ensure that they are being properly entered and that all findings are resolved in a timely manner.
- Review Injury and Illness log data to identify trends and recommend program development and/or training to aid in reduction of workers’ compensation claims.
- Report promptly to company management any serious injury or incident that triggers federal, state, and/or local reporting regulations informing them of the details of the event and schedule of follow-up activity.
- On cases reportable to the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) or other regulatory agencies, work with Production Management, production representatives and regulatory agency to resolve identified safety issues.
