The **Benefits Specialist** is a Temp to Perm, full time position.

The Dooris an unparalleled model for youth development, offering a comprehensive range of integrated services within a single site for nearly 11,000 New York City youth each year. A major initiative within The Door, Broome Street Academy (BSA) is a unique charter high school that prepares New York City’s most vulnerable youth for a successful future through rigorous academics paired with supports of The Door.

**Job Summary**:
The Benefits Specialist position plays a huge part in the day-to-day operations of our group benefits programs (group health, dental, vision, short-term and long-term disability, worker's compensation, life insurance, flexible spending plan, retirement plans, etc.). This position provides excellent customer service and accurate reporting of all benefit plans for 2 companys (The Door and BSA). The specialist is responsible for the day to day operations of all benefit plans. Confidentiality and efficiency are very important qualities for a benefits specialist.

**Duties/Responsibilities**:

- Administer various employee benefits programs, such as group health, flexible spending accounts, dental and vision, accident and disability, life insurance, 403(b), ect.
- Conduct benefits orientations and explain benefits self-enrollment system.
- Partner with human resources team, plan vendors, third-party and other administrators.
- Coordinate transfer of data to external contacts for services, premiums and plan administration.
- Evaluate and revise internal processes to reduce costs and increase efficiency.
- Document and maintain administrative procedures for assigned benefits processes.
- Ensure compliance with applicable government regulations.Ensure timeliness and accuracy of required reporting and fees.
- Coordinate daily benefits processing. Handle all benefits plan enrollments, COBRA, terminations, changes, beneficiaries, disability, accident and death claims, rollovers, qualified domestic relations order (QDROs), Qualified Medical Child Support Order(QMCSOs), distributions, loans, hardships and compliance testing.
- Maintain the ACA records in the HRIS system.
- Oversee maintenance of employee benefits files, maintain group benefits in HRIS.
- Gather employee data and oversee the processing of monthly billings and the preparation of Request For Payments (RFP) for payment of administrative fees for all group plans.
- Perform plan audits. Run reports, prepare, collect and organize data for actuarial assessments. Review data in conjunction with actuarial evaluation task forces.
- Survey industry trends. Complete benefits surveys and review information obtained from the results. Analyze complex benefits information. Forecast trends and assist with future benefits designs. Develop specific recommendations for review by management.
- Provide customer service support to internal and external customers. Develop communication tools to enhance understanding of the company's benefits packages.
- Work with broker on design materials for benefits orientations, and open enrollment. Provide training and support ensuring staff understands the organizations benefit programs.
- Assist with designing and implementing various benefit programs (insurance, wellness etc.).
- Coordinate leave of absences, (NYDBL, NYPFL, FMLA, STD, LTD & Worker’s Compensation) and manage employees' on leave timecards.
- Adhere to employee confidentiality and HIPPA laws.
- Handle special projects and other duties as assigned.

**Qualifications**:

- Bachelor's Degree with 2 years benefits experience or High School Diploma with 5 years full cycle benefits experience.
- Computer proficiency and technical aptitude with the ability to use Microsoft products, including PowerPoint; experience with HRIS and benefits databases, preferably Paycom.
- Solid understanding of different benefit plans (retirement, health & dental insurance etc.) and relevant regulations.
- Proven ability to work effectively in a team environment with associates.
- Effective planning and priority setting. Ability to manage several complex projects simultaneously while working under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Strong analytical skills and thorough knowledge of plan designs.
