**Duties**:
The Public Affairs Specialist performs the following major duties:

- Public Affairs Program Planning and Evaluation
- Communications, Liaison and Information Dissemination
- Marketing, Publicity, Promotional and Instructional Matterials
- VIP Visit Coordination

**Requirements**:
**Conditions of Employment**:

- You must be a U.S. Citizen.
- You must be at least 18 years of age.
- All Federal employees are required to have federal salary payments made by direct deposit to a financial institution of their choosing.
- You must complete a Declaration for Federal Employment to determine your suitability for Federal employment, at the time requested by the agency.
- You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9. Federal law requires verification of the identity and employment eligibility of all new hires in the U.S. These documents must be unexpired originalor certified copies**.**:

- You must successfully complete a background security investigation with favorable adjudication. Failure to successfully meet this requirement will be grounds for employment termination.
- Prior to employment, and in compliance with statutes 5 USC 3322 and 22 USC 2507b, Peace Corps will conduct a check of Peace Corps records for both Returned Peace Corps Volunteers and former Peace Corps employees.
- All new employees are required to certify and submit a state of understanding acknowledging adherence to the Peace Corps condition of employment prior to day 1 of employment with the Peace Corps.
- This position requires a public trust background investigation.
- This is a bargaining unit position.
- A one-year probationary period is required.
- The initial appointment to this position cannot exceed five years.

**Qualifications**:
**Specialized Experience**:
This vacancy is being announced at three grade level(s): FP-7, FP-5, FP-4

**Specialized Experience at the FP-7 (GS-7)**: To be mínimally qualified for this position at the **FP-7** level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression, **FP-9** or** GS-5** level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. **Specialized experience includes**:assists in the written and oral communication preparation of program, press, publicity and marketing materials for print and electronic distribution or One full year of graduate level education.

**Specialized Experience at the FP-5 (GS-9)**: To be mínimally qualified for this position at the **FP-5** level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression, **FP-7** or** GS-7 **level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. **Specialized experience includes**:with guidance from higher level specialist, prepare, coordinate and disseminates informational, promotional and marketing materials internal and external to the agency or A Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR L.L.B. or J.D., if related.

**Specialized Experience at the FP-4 (GS-11)**: To be mínimally qualified for this position at the **FP-4 **level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression, **FP-5** or** GS-9** level which is in or directly related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. **Specialized experience includes**:develop and implement a national media and communications strategy to increase public and media awareness. Prepares operational plans and procedures to organize activities for special events, radio/television interviews and public speaking engagements or Ph. D or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position.
