This position is located under the Office of Public and Governmental Affairs, Public Affairs Branch in Washington, District of Columbia.


The primary purpose of this position is to support the Public Affairs Division and its mission to execute communications strategies to enhance the public's understanding of ATF's diverse mission and inform the media of key ATF programs and activities.

As a Public Affairs Specialist, GS , your typical work assignments may include:

Providing timely, accurate, informative, and focused communications on ATF initiatives and programs that impact public safety;
Developing written materials such as press releases, background papers, etc. that include the appropriate quantity, degree and tone of information to be disseminated;
Ensuring that the policies and views of leadership are consistent in public outreach and resolving divergent public expressions among key officials;
Maintaining effective working relationships with media representatives, public interest and community groups, and representatives of public industry to gain understanding and support for ATF programs;
Evaluating and identifying potential media problems or areas of friction and recommending solutions.
