SUMMARY/GOAL OF POSITION:
The Cyber Security and Forensics Specialist is responsible for:

- Research and collaborate on maintaining servers and other hardware with up to date vulnerability patches
- Implement and document security solutions and processes
- Conduct security vulnerability audits, assessments, penetration testing and coordinate remediation activities
- Monitor, investigate, and mitigate security alerts and incidents
- Recommend and implement solutions to remediate or mitigate security issues
- Investigate incidents involving students, including collecting and delivering relevant data logs to administrators
- Conduct cybersecurity awareness training for staff
- Advise on disaster recovery and incident response scenarios
- Maintain & ensure compliance with cyber liability insurance requirements

METHODS:
The Cyber Security and Forensics Specialist will perform cyber threat intelligence analysis, correlate actionable security events, perform network traffic analysis and participate in the coordination of resources during incident response efforts.

ESSENTIAL TASKS OF THE POSITION: (Illustrative, not inclusive)
- Investigate security alerts and mitigate any incident as appropriate
- Research and advise of vulnerabilities, 0 day exploits and other threats
- Recommend and implement security patches, updates and measures to mitigate workstation and server security risks
- Analyze IT specifications to assess security risks.
- Maintain, update, and test Incident Response and Disaster Recovery Plans.
- Install, configure and upgrade security software (e.g. antivirus programs).
- Secure networks through firewalls, password protection, MFA Configuration/Deployment, and other systems.
- Inspect and conduct scan against hardware and software for vulnerabilities
- Monitor and analyze network activity to identify issues early and communicate them to IT teams.
- Act on privacy breaches and malware threats
- Serve as the districts cyber security expert
- Draft policies and guidelines
- Manage Google Workspace and Azure Entra
- Supports general staff and student IT needs in schools
- Other tasks and responsibilities as specified by the Director of Business and Instructional Digital Services and/or Digital End User Services Manager

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

- Experience remediating and patching server OS and software security vulnerabilities in an enterprise environment
- Deep understanding of cybersecurity and the relationship between threat, vulnerability and information value in the context of risk management
- Experience with Active Directory
- Experience or ability to learn Rapid7 SIEM and vulnerability scanning solutions
- Experience with enterprise NGFW Firewall and SSL VPN
- Understanding of CIS Controls
- Complete understanding of publishing and Freedom of Information and FERPA laws
- Recognize and protect private information of students and staff
- Excellent organizational skills
- Ability to handle a multi-task environment is a must
- Ability to keep sensitive information confidential
- Ability to research and learn new information, problems and solutions
- Understand and follow principle of least privilege and the zero trust model for user permissions and access
- Understanding of security best practices
- Ability to translate complex security practices into easy-to-understand directions for users by creating documentation, videos, guides and other training materials
- Ability to manage and track large, long-term projects such as documenting patches applied
- Ability to analyze data logs
- Experience with preventing and mitigating malware and other malicious software
- Possesses an understanding of various protocols and topologies (such as, LDAP, SSL, TCP/IP, UDP, HTTP, HTTPS, DHCP, DNS, routing protocols)
- Possesses a comprehensive understanding of IPSEC protocol along with VPN deployment and installation.
- Strong knowledge of attack vectors, common vulnerabilities and exploitation techniques
- Experience with Linux based machines (Ubuntu, CentOS)
- Experience with Azure Entra, Intune, and Google Workspace

QUALIFICATIONS:
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:

- Preferred Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; Preferred areas of concentration include: Computer Science, Cyber Security and Networking or related studies
- Preferred minimum of 2 years experience in a related field

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:
Security+ or related information security certifications preferred

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

- Background check required
- Screening for Tuberculosis (TB) required
