Madison College's Public Safety Services is hiring a** Safety Patrol Officer** to support safety and security operations across the district. The **Safety Patrol Officer** performs general shift specific safety and security duties in and around all physical cus facilities within the district and works with staff to ensure the safety and well-being of all students, staff, and visitors. This position maintains order through effective patrol, incident response, management and proper follow-up during their respective shift and throughout the district. The officer will work independently, requiring strong judgment and decision-making skills.

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with general working hours Monday through Thursday 1:00pm - 11:00pm.

**Essential Responsibilities**:

- Provides patrol and incident response for general security and safety for cuses, and responds to all non-emergency and emergency incidents on cus and within the district as needed.
- Patrols all cus buildings, perimeter and parking areas. Inspects for safety violations, fire hazards, and checks for leaks (water and gas). Examines perimeter doors, stairwell doors, and secured area doors for proper operation and security integrity. Examines motion detectors and other alarm devices to ensure working order.
- Responds to all calls for service and collects all relevant information needed to complete and file written reports and other in incident situations and other documentation in a timely manner. Also expected to initiate contacts with violators of Federal, State and/or local laws and Madison College Code of Conduct whenever violations are witnessed and proper actions taken.
- Responds to and assesses medical incidents, administers CPR and first aid if appropriate, and notifies the proper authorities if external assistance is required.
- Completes special assignments in a timely manner as designated by the Deputy Director or Director.
- Attends all mandatory public safety training programs, department meetings, and other training as directed by the Deputy Director or Director.

**Knowledge, Skills & Abilities**:

- Skill in communicating effectively and professionally, both orally and in writing.
- Demonstrated skill in communications and human relations with populations of diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds and persons with disabilities.
- Working knowledge of Wisconsin Law, City of Madison Ordinances, Madison College Policies and Procedures, Student Rights and Responsibilities, security and fire alarm systems, and access control systems.
- Demonstrated skill in multi-tasking, prioritizing, scheduling, crowd control, emergency, incident management, written and verbal communication and basic math skills and ability to think and make accurate decisions quickly in emergency situations and to multitask.
- Ability to understand and operate CCTV systems, fire and intrusion alarms with graphical user interfaces, camera multiplexers and video recorders, and access card readers
- Ability to stand for long periods; handle or feel, reach with hands and arms. Required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl, see, talk and hear. Occasionally required to walk through dark areas. Occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, blood borne pathogens, external weather conditions, and risk of electrical shock.
