Cafe Barista

**Position Summary**:
The Barista is responsible for fulfilling orders and completing sales transactions within the Pete’s Market café and performing other support functions which may include cleaning the food preparation, customer seating or stock areas, and maintaining inventory. Demonstrates Pete’s Market Four Pillars: Value, Aesthetic, Quality, and Service.

**Essential Functions and Duties**:

- Possess the essential skills, knowledge, and training necessary to appropriately brew espresso and coffee beverages for customers.
- Exhibit teamwork to ensure customer satisfaction and a pleasant working and shopping environment.
- Provide friendly and efficient customer service by demonstrating sincerity, patience, and respect in all customer interactions and by thanking customers for their business.
- Greet customers in a genuine and friendly manner throughout the store and assist them by escorting them to products, loading/unloading heavy items and helping them to retrieve out of reach items.
- Effectively communicate with customers and respond to questions and requests in a timely manner.
- Properly operate equipment and wear proper personal protective equipment (e.g., coffee maker, espresso machine, steamer, chemical resistant gloves, and splash goggles) according to company guidelines
- Maximizes sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, quality, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product.
- Follows and complies with established procedures.
- Ensure that beverages are made at proper temperatures and all equipment adheres to sanitation regulations.
- Must possess creativity, organizational ability, and a good deal of energy
- Be able to make any kind of coffee drink (espresso, cappuccino, latte, Americano, etc.).
- Ability to follow a production schedule and to prioritize tasks
- Ability to take direction and follow recipes
- Attends all scheduled employee meetings and brings suggestions for improvement
- Maintain high cleanliness standards; clean as you go, inclusive of washing, cleaning, sweeping, mopping.
- Adhere to all local, state and federal laws, and company guidelines; comply with and reinforce all food safety and safety regulations/guidelines/procedures and programs; report all issues and illegal activity, including robbery, theft, or fraud.
- Assist general team members as needed.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

**Education, Certifications, and Qualifications**:

- Valid Food Handler or Sanitation Certificate
- High school diploma or equivalency
- 0-3 years of experience in grocery store, bakery, and/or similar retail environment.

- Must have a reliable source of transportation.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule with various shifts, including weekends and holidays, as determined by the business needs
- Effective interpersonal, communication and customer service skills
- Ability to work in a fast paced environment; takes initiative
- Friendly, approachable and outgoing demeanor/team player
- Sound judgement/decision making skills
- Ability to read/interpret documents
- Basic math skills (counting, addition, and subtraction)

**Physical Demands and Work Environment**:

- Physical demands include, but are not limited to, frequent use of hands for squeezing motion, bending and twisting writs, standing in one location, walking, turning, reaching, stooping/bending, squatting, lifting/carrying objects 5 to 40 lbs., pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 200 lbs., hand to eye coordination; occasional lifting objects over 40 lbs. and pushing/pulling up objects 100 to 500 lbs., climbing ladders, stooping and crawling. May be exposed to various temperature changes and work environments.
