**Duties**:
**THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION**

The Prosthetic Clerk position will serve within the Prosthetics and Sensory Aid Service, Office of the Associate, Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration, VA Great Lakes Health Care System (VISN 12), located at the James A Lovell. FHCC, North Chicago, IL.

Duties include, but may not be limited to:

- Maintains knowledge of all of the PSAS rules, regulations regarding eligibility/entitlement for home medical equipment and prosthetic/orthotic devices as well as programs such as Automobile Adaptive Equipment, Home Oxygen, Clothing Allowance, and Home Improvement and Structural Alteration.
- Manages scheduling appointments, assuring that appointments booked are done so with the appointment functionality.
- Ensures proper patient management and workload counts by the appropriate use of the "Check-In/Check-Out" and CPT function in VISTA.
- Enters clinic appointment in the EWL (Electronic Wait List) as necessary.
- Ensures that the patient is informed of the place and time of each appointment.
- Ensures that workload is properly credited.
- Locates the prescription for the prosthetic item, which prints in PSAS as a CPRS consult.
- Determines the veteran's eligibility and entitlement for the prosthetic items.
- Determines when patient education is required and refer veteran to appropriate clinician for training.
- Assists visitors and/or callers with the completion of forms or documents necessary to provide the prosthetic items in order to assist visitors/callers.
- Researches patient record information using CPRS, Appointment Scheduling, and files.
- Prepares all required patient travel documentation to be submitted for veteran reimbursement.
- Enters required Health Care Procedural Coding System (HCPCS), ICDIO codes, and the VA Unique Codes necessary for the National Prosthetics Patient Database (NPPD), which provides the statistical data relating to workload and expenditures for the PSAP.
- Selects the correct bar code label and post stock issue under the 'Request and Receipt for Prosthetic Appliances or Service (2319 form) record.

**Work Schedule: Monday -Friday; 8:00am - 4:30pm**

**Qualifications**:
**ENGLISH LANGUAGE PROFICIENCY**: In accordance with 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), No person shall serve in direct patient care positions unless they are proficient in basic written and spoken English. You must be proficient in basic written and spoken English in order to meet the requirements of this position.
- **And**
**SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GS-5**: having one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-4 level in Federal service that equips you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to successfully perform the duties of the position to be filled. Specialized experience includes having knowledge of mission, regulations, and policies, regarding patient care, priorities, commitments, and program goals necessary to properly serve the patient population; understanding of the Healthcare Common Procedures Coding System (HCPCS) and the international Classification of Diseases, Tenth Revision (IDC-10) Diagnostic Code system; capable of performs and adhering to timekeeping rules and regulations in order to prepare timecards; maintains awareness of the Freedom of Information Act, Privacy Act and HIPAA in order process release of information requests; versed and skilled in the use of office automation equipment, such as facsimile machine, word processors, personal computers, typewriters, printers, calculators, and copier are necessary to effectively communicate with others and to complete in final form all required paperwork using correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- **OR**
**SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE**:GS-5**: Four (4) years of successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college, or university. **(TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED)**
